A trigger works like the following, if a drum note exceeds a preset level, it registers with the trigger and an electronic signal is sent to the recording device (for example, ProTools). Triggers are used for editing, but oh my gosh, triggering does not make you a definite fake. I'm with you in that he uses them to make his drums sound good, not to replace his talent.
