The movie was pushed out in response to twenty thousand leauges under the sea, Disney's film sparked a Vern inspired film blitz... Although it has it's weak points, it is still a fun inturpritation on the books. I TOO, would love to see a remake... why not? they seem to remake the former story, alot.... For anyone interested, I built a large model of the "Albatross"... Maybe the only one out there from this film.
Robur is a fictional character who illustrates my beliefs about holier-than-thou pacifists, namely that they are trying to cover up a violent and destructive side to their nature. They protest too much.
@Cooloski A manufacture-on-demand DVD-R is coming out from MGM/Fox. That's for sale at the usual online retailers, like the one named for the big river in Brazil (hint, hint).
I know this is steampunk type film, and so shouldn't really be taken too seriously. But the producers really got their time periods muddled up here.
We can see in this trailer what looks like a very medieval London skyline, complete with Shakespeare's Globe Theatre which was demolished in 1644. The crew's side arms are 18th century flintlock pistols. And in the movie itself the Paris skyline is modern for when the film was made, 1961.
The navy ships that attack the Albatross are also the wrong era, they should be Victorian Era ironclads, not ships from the time of Lord Nelson! I guess the producers had the models and decided to save money.
@Humbertusmarius ...I noticed the same thing! Definately ships of Nelsons era, one even looks like the HMS victory. I think these scenes came from "That Hamilton Woman"-a film about Nelson and Lady Hamilton that was made in the late 1930s. The "tell" is that the color of this sequence does not match the color in the rest of the movie.
@Humbertusmarius Models? You're probably assuming too much. More likely, the producers had stock footage. This is an America Independent Pictures film, after all.
@mukatuna I had this hunch about the Globe, which I confirmed with a quick wikipedia check. The London shot with the Globe was reused footage from Laurence Olivier's 1944 adaptation of Henry V, which uses the shot in its opening.
So it was just cheap editing. The rest, I suppose, is bad design.
Brilliant concept......remember how exiting it was in the movie "The Rocketeer" aboard the Zeppelin? I dream of a real-life modern luxury cruiser zeppelin in 1930s art deco style, to encircle the globe!
I wish someone would make updated versions of all these movies. With today's technology the special effects would be so much better. Still I enjoyed this film when I saw it as a child. The book version is always better.
Me gustaria que alquien hiciese versiones actualizadas de todas estas peliculas. Con la tecnologia de hoy los efectos especiales serian superiores. Aun asi, esta pelicula me gusto mucho cuando era nino. La version del libro es siempre mejor.

I have no doubt someone will edit this as a film trailer to Bioshock Infinite.

Wonder how Price felt when Bronson goes on to make "The Great Escape" and he got stuck playing in horror movies...

This movie is the true beginning of steampunk. It is pure awesomeness, better than the modern scifi with Will Smith and Tom Cruise.

PURE CRAP!
No budget, no story, no nothing.
Even action director William Whitney couldn't save this pile.
It was actually based on two Verne stories: Robur the Conqueror and Master of the World.
The only shining point was a great score by Les Baxter.

Was the Albatross time travel capable?

@mukatuna It's an AIP film. AIP tended to use whatever stock footage they could get.
