Well dude, I listen to TONS of shred stuff. And Rusty Cooley, to me, is just another ridiculous shredder. Nothing makes him stand out to me other than his incessant speed, and I prefer improvising skills and melodies. Like for example Shawn Lane or Marty Friedman.

Well, he lives in the same town as I do, so meeting up with him isn't hard whatsoever.

and he gives guitar lesson as a nearby music lession place, it costs what... 140... a month... for .. four 30 minute lessons per month.... really helps though, he'es awesome

It's all cool! On stage different shit happens, i myself played 2 gigs on a terrible amp and PA in an even worse club which had terrible acoustics and everything was just melting like you were playing through 10 delay pedals. A bad sound on stage can make every player mess up - it's just not possible to keep up while everything is just growling and moaning around you.

This one can easily be forgotten as a bad day (or a drunk sound-tech).
