I would say the TK-40. I haven't had a flashlight yet that I like better than the TK-40.

the best upgrade for your maglite is the new (coming mid november) TerraLUX TLE 300M EX, that have the brighest light output for your maglite, and one of the greatest in the world for a flashlight, over 700 lumens;) extreme wall of light and quite good throw.. very intelligent LED too, than the battery goes low the LED go too moonlight mode auto (400-500 lumens), never need replace etc. the battery lifetime is really good...

Throw just refers to how far the flashlights beam can reach.
