Damn! What's all the Bitchin'about? I'm a White Aussie and I love Asian Pop no matter what country it comes from! I started off with CPOP and MPOP, ( Thanks to my ex who is Chinese ) then found JPOP, then VPOP, now I've found KPOP! I watch SBSPOPASIA every week and love it! Youtube is a global site. Youku is a Chinese youtube with over 70% local traffic.

If you want to compare the demographics, kpop is in fact much more widespread in its influence. cpop on the other hand, is largely favoured by only the Chinese community.

While I compare c-pop and k-pop I think c-pop is more dramatic and more autotuned, makes the singer's voice a bit electric. K-pop is a bit faster when you take an overall look. Since the base of c-pop is definetly k-pop it's no wonder why they are quite close to each other, but I think they are going to be quite different in the future when the genre spreads to the world. :D So I won't argue which is better, I'll say I love both.

@HsushiKing Yeah, Visual Kei is a style as well as a genre... I'm pretty sure it's the same thing as J-Rock like The Gazette, plastic tree ect. The Gazette have a song that some people think is about the lead singer... who fell in love and then she died. They also have a song I really like about a famous Japanese torture and murder.. and there is Cassis (which is there best song). Also a lot of people think that the lead singer of Plastic Tree is where they got the idea for L's character.

Taiwan has a much larger music industry. China is a bit slow off the start because most of their artists are ballad singers, and that doesn't garner enough attention and money to produce idol bands. However, recently some bands from the mainland have been sprouting up. Top Combine is owned by a company in Shanghai, HIT-5 is mainland (I think), as is SD5 Xing Tang and SS.G.

Communism doesn't really have much to do with it. Idol pop bands are a relatively new concept to China.
