What an incredible version of Buffy Sainte-Maries's timeless classic -- the Charlatans were amazing. I can't believe this was recorded in 1966.....real, REAL good!!!
all the greats of rock have been manipulated from behind the scenes to serve a purpose or movement that will sway peoples minds for a decade, or until they decide to terminate their rock act,..they kept most of the ones in the 60s on heroin so they could easily be rid off once they made the money and turned 27. kurt was the last, im sure if yu fuckin asked him he wouldnt wana be remembered for bein a junky man..
I don't think this is an edited version. I think they just cut some of the lyrics to fit a 2m 25s song. This is the version I have heard on several compilations.
The Charlatans are considered the first acid-rock band and two of the band members - George Hunter & Mike Ferguson were also responsible for the first psychedelic poster "The Seed" which advertised a June 21, show at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada. I don't know what that poster is worth today but around ten years ago i heard it was valued at around $5,000 USD.
RIP Kurt Cobain

i think there is a picture of Cobain because the vocals in this song sound a bit like something Kurt would sing?

Worth seeking out the original by Buffy Sainte Marie, though her version on here isn't the original recording

Great movie, huh?
It's one of the songs from the film, along with 'The bluest eyes in texas' that stood out to me for some reason.

I've had the album for a long time now. This version's not edited. Most good things come in small packages.

As far as I've been able to determine, it's not so much that this version is censored, it was just cut short to fit radio play.
Funny, as in funny disturbing.
Ironic, because it didn't get radio play anyway, due to its content.
Anyhow, this is the Charlatans version of a splendid Buffy Ste. Marie song.

Ahead of their time. They clearly influenced The Band and (on another track) Lynyrd Skynyrd.

A classic. Banned by the media at the time as a drug song even though it has an anti-drug theme - "stay away from the men pushin codine around".
