@FrozenNorway Because the Christian interpretations of the bible encourage the applying of beliefs onto other people who haven't yet been "born again" or "saved". It's basic Christian behaviour. When you convince a figure head, in this case a king, you can destroy and replace country's entire value system.
The lyrics are: "No skal barne sova, stilt det blir i stova. Mor skal bake kake, og barne skal få smake. Far han bygger båten fin, og bror han kjøyrer blakken. Søster går å sankar lin, til tråd åt vesle stakken."
@neonorven Most antique music is quite simple. The melody just twirls for a little and falls into root quite simply and easily, and in the case of harmony and chords, accidentals are few and root is achieved in few progressions. I guess the only reason to listen to this is because of the tunings and a simplicity apparently fresh, having little use nowadays. Though I have heard a little greek music that doesnt seem have to have a strong tonic, ie, its resolution is quite ambiguous.
I have no idea, I live in norway myself but have never seen one for sale. I guess if you`re gonna try to buy one you have to search the internet, and good luck with that, not too many make them nowadays...
@Brjostabarn Unfortunately none's selling on the internet unless you search really really hard. I tried and did not find anything. There are plenty of books regarding this particular music instrument but not the instrument itself.
and eventually, do anyone know some good synthesizers for ambient in this style? I am making my own ambient atm, as you can see on my profile, and this is exactly what i'm looking for of sounds
is it true that there are still people who follow the religion of the vikings? I worked with one from Denmark who said I believed in this religion. someone who knows if this religion still lives?
@joeranwa i consider myself an asatru, thats the closest thing there is. however we are few and far apart, for the most part the old norse culture is considered dead.
Expanding on what Vikingskog replied with, Asatru and other such Old Ways, including at least social/community traditions, are very much alive in Scandinavia (particularly Norway and Iceland) and America. That's right - America.
Compared to something like the Christian churches it's terribly small, but there are organizations in the USA and I believe Canada.
@Bladenavor The Old Gods, the Old Ways, the idea of a freedom not easy for the followers of these new religions to grasp. The absence of notions like sin, together with high moral and duty standards. A very weak resume, but it is a start :D
@joeranwa You can look up Germanic Heathenism or Germanic Paganism. It's a blanket term for the Old Norse Beliefs, Old German Beliefs, Old Anglo-Saxon beliefs, and pretty much any other pre-Christian belief of the Germanic peoples. I myself am a Germanic Heathen.
@joeranwa Hm, late reply... But yes, people still worship the Norse gods, me amongst them. But the faith have changed, so to speak, and it isn't practiced like it was in the viking age.
No it's because the Christians flag it, they reckon Norse Paganism is evil, even though all their holidays are stolen from our ways, Christmas = Winter Solstice.
we are growing in number again though hail Odin hail Thor.

@FrozenNorway because they were smart. Christianity wouldn't exist there if the people of the time didn't accept it over their own native religion.

joeranwa 1 year ago 16
Yes it has been revived(it died out in Norway in 1050, and in about 950 in denmark, bit later in sweden).
Åsatru("aesir-belief") is the common name for it,
that and Forn-sed is the two main directions of it in scandinavia.
They have blots(where you sacrifice something to the gods) in many parts of Norway.
