woa woa woa woa...what non sense is peter jones chatting.....30w u can hold upto 7 terminals...and it's targetted to customers and customers would never neeed 54 terminals ...what kinda outlandish comparison are making peter jones.. you are giving stupid examples.
But which home user uses 5 screens? And Im sure his product is mainly designed for the IT sector, which i think he mentions. Its not designed for home use.
server for server the pitch's uses less power (60 watts as apposed to 300 watts). However they only power 7 monitors each, where as the higher vault age server can power larger numbers of terminals per server (thats why it uses more power !) In a business setting where you need a number of monitors (the example being 54)it is 'false economy' as you would need 8 of his 'green' servers to power the equivalent of what 1 of the higher vault age servers could manage using MORE POWER!
A 'very p.c' server uses 60 watts and they serve 7 monitors each. to power 54 terminal (7x8=56) you need 8 servers. 60 watts x 8 servers=480 watts.
1 'ordinary' server uses 300 watts and will run all 54 monitors meaning in the business scenario peter set out using 'very p.c' would use 180 watts MORE power-pulling apart the whole 'green' pitch!..is that clearer?
@leesawford I feel sorry for this guy. I believe he was very right but he presented his product all verbally. he should show them the quarterly comparison of an ordinary situation and VERY PC situation. This way he chances were quite bright that he got money injection from them.
Are you mad?? You clearly know nothing about business. This guy is a fucking moron. He wants £250,000 for 5% of his business... a business which most recently generated an annual net profit of £24,000. At that rate, it would take the Dragon's about 200 years just to make their initial £250k back. And even if, by some miracle of God, the business made a net profit of £1million every year, it'd still take 5 years just to make their money back. Like I said, the guy is a FUCKING MORON.
wot the fuck is peter on about!? the verypc pc uses 30 watts of power, a normal pc about 400 watts. so theres a very clear difference! 1 server with 54 dumb terminals!! wot a pillock!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA were you even listing to them 1 server does 50 monitors that uses 300 watts, were as his is 1 server doing 7 monitors so you need 8 of them that use 60watts each now lets do some maths 60*8 = 480 now that tells me that the 1 server uses 180 less watts. so maybe next time YOU will shut the fuck up
Needs more investigation. My Pc uses 400 watts of power, a verypc uses 30 watts, so thats a big saving. forget the network for normal home use it wud be big saving.
Well more fool them for being so unpleasant to the guy. I buy components from his main supplier and VeryPC continue to grow a healthy number quarter on quarter in a recession where Dell & HP server sales are down 29% on same qtr last year, how many of their businesses can make the same claims.
That guy is making 1.5M turnover and is funded by the british ministry for environment.
Peter Jones asked whether he uses AMD or Intel BIOS, but it was edited out.
Just to see clearly who is full of bullshit here in the story. Yet again the "dragons" proved their lack of knowledge. Its funny how people believe that the rich is always right. What they do is that they sell the connection they have in other companies for equity, thus having more connections to sell. Once you're in its easy.
the dragons do not have a lack of knowledge, they r 5 of the most succesful business ppl alive, they simply could not see how this company could be a gd investment, every1 has a wrong call every now and then.
My real problem is the way they reject the idea and how they call the guy a phony. Peter Jones talks about how he knows IT very very well which turns out to be a false statement. Now who is the phony? If you want to humuliate and ridicule someone you should make sure that you are right, because if you are not that makes you look like an asshole.
Belief in your own hard worked for business / brand is admirable , but consider selling these items at a discount, you will help the environment by getting more off the shelves of wharehouses replacing more old systems, then you might be able to develop your ideas.
What you should have offerred is the Brand and its ability to upsell an off the shelf product at a higher prices than a normal high street shop.
Anyone who can charge more for the same product just by putting their name on it must be worth 5million.
However in the current climate the power saving is unlikely to pay back the additional cost for a shiny badge which you did not mention to be ecologically sound? even if it is what are you really expecting people to pay for?
Peter you appear to have got the backs up the Dragons.
I would have to aggree with them, by the time you have considered data safety and continuity, at this level of system, you might as well look at the hard drive less thin client systems which don't even need an operating system on the local pc as it is all streamed through the network. Modern systems are becoming less power hungry and adding a few tweaks to a bios is not really revolutionary.
I saw one of those VERY PC awards in Home Bargains last week for £1.39

his servers are greener if you use less than 35 monitors (300watts divided by 60 and times 7).
