He was wrong about what polygamy means - polygamy is several people married together, could be men or women. PolyGYNY is one man and two or more women, and polyandry is one woman and two or more men. I personally think what people do in their relationships/marriages should be up to them - as long as everyone involved consents, why should anyone else care? I think that they were both put on the spot and had trouble explaining something they knew was going to be watched. If someone does a poor job at explaining polyamory it can lead the listener to be more confused. I don't think telling people who try things outside of the norm that they suck is really any way to promote intelligent discourse. If people are voluntarily engaging in activities which brings them happiness and doesn't hurt anyone else, what's the harm? It's not right for everyone, but some couples find that swinging etc. has a really positive impact on their relationship together. Just because they are special to you doesn't automatically make the relationship perfect, no relationship is.
Outside the norm is home to many practices that disgusting and detrimental not just to relationships, but to society. We have standards that we think are "normal" for a reason because they are logical and healthy, not like this perverse way of having an intimate relationship with a spouse. I don't agree that marriages fall apart because of a dead sex life. Lack of trust, different expectations, mismatched goals, unhealthy communication, inability to constructively support one another - these are reasons marriages fail. It may be hard for young people to understand that people are not unstoppable sex machines forever! Building a relationship on trust and mutual respect requires patience, compromise, and vulnerability. These things require hard work, but they have staying power.

I don't think telling people who try things outside of the norm that they suck is really any way to promote intelligent discourse. If people are voluntarily engaging in activities which brings them happiness and doesn't hurt anyone else, what's the harm? It's not right for everyone, but some couples find that swinging etc. has a really positive impact on their relationship together. Just because they are special to you doesn't automatically make the relationship perfect, no relationship is.

Outside the norm is home to many practices that disgusting and detrimental not just to relationships, but to society. We have standards that we think are "normal" for a reason because they are logical and healthy, not like this perverse way of having an intimate relationship with a spouse. This is just adultery with permission. People who want to have a spouse, but still get their knockers off with other people should just stick to being a single low life who has no idea what real commitment is.

It's obvious that most of you have not met truly polyamorous people. The concept of polyamory is that you have the ability to love more than one person at once. That you have the open communication with your spouse/SO to share those feelings with them, and for them to accept them (for the most part). That you can have a loving committed RELATIONSHIP with more than one person. As I said before folks, for the truly polyamorous, sex is just the icing on the cake. The true focus is the relationship.

I don't agree that marriages fall apart because of a dead sex life. Lack of trust, different expectations, mismatched goals, unhealthy communication, inability to constructively support one another - these are reasons marriages fail. It may be hard for young people to understand that people are not unstoppable sex machines forever! Building a relationship on trust and mutual respect requires patience, compromise, and vulnerability. These things require hard work, but they have staying power.

You are right. Because multiple wives is so much more common than multiple husbands, people assume "polygamy" means multiple wives. Although rarer, there are indeed societies where girls marry multiple men. I watched a wedding ceremony where a 15 year old girl married 5 husbands over 20 and 30. The men were all brothers of each other or something. That is how polyandry works in at least one society where it is practiced. The girls marry a guy and his brothers too by default.

Jesus. I pray for you all. There can only be one best, one favorite, one "in love". You can love more than one person equally in this sense.
