i have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old GM Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
always use 1% two stroke oil in your fuel to prevent engine and fuel system wear and corrosion caused by modern E10 Eco Fuel! Its just too dry and aggressive to your engine and pump and tank materials. 2 Stroke oil neutralizes the acid in the modern eco-fuel.
Der Fuehrer allegedly forbade his German officers from riding in Tatras as so many had been killed spinning out on mountainous Czech roads.
One of those automobiles you can drive safely forever if you just know the limits - and with that V-8 ship anchor in the trunk those limits are not far out.

To auto už ked bolo nové použivalo zastaralú technológiu s prehistorickým motorom uloženým úplne dementne. Ku koncu výroby bola 603 už úplná skamenelina. Porovnaj si ju napríklad so Chevroletom Bel Air alebo Impala 50tych rokov. A robila do 1975 OMG
Dělai jsme to my. Přece o Zuzaně, která je taky československá, ale nedělali jsme ji my. Ale vy. Basta
Well, they both have the engine in the back, and three front lights. But in other aspects they are different. The Tatra has a small aircooled V8, the Tucker has a huge watercooled flat 6 (helicopter) engine.
The Tucker was impressive by the way. Too bad they went broke.
Too bad that Tatra doesn't build luxury cars anymore!!!!!!!!!!
It's a crime we never got these in the west, Tatra was one of the all time great auto manufacturers and was unusual for a communist controlled country in that it actually made good cars
Between world wars (1918-1938) is Czechoslovakia 5th most industrial developed country of world (USA,UK,FRANCE,GERMANY AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA).But 2nd world war and next Soviet control stop our developing.
I think you are right. Tatra is/was one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world.before the communists, certainly one of the most advanced, they understood auro aerodynamics long before anyone else
True. This is the reason Hitler wanted the country (and its vast industry) in 1938. Since the allies (Britain and France) chickened instead of telling Hitler to go screw himself (poor Neville Chamberlain though Hitler was "reasonable") the German dictator suddenly had a lot of tanks, weapons and the industries to produce a lot of war materials at his disposal.
The Czechs themselves were prepared for a war in 1938 and had a strong border defense with a lot of forts and obstacles.
Well to be honest, I hope that you mean with "good cars" cars that look "good" because if you call a tatra 603 a good quality car, then I must tell you that it is a car that always is broken! I have one and I know what I am talking about - Yes, I am having my tatra repared in a TATRA specialized workshop in CZ. Nevertheless I totally understand why the tatra has a engine start button in the trunk (engine room). But still it is totally worth the effort...
I will bow to your superior knowledge, I have never even sat in one! However, its one of those cars, like a jaguar E-type, that it just doesnt matter how dynamically good it is, the car just LOOKS so damned good you can't help liking them. The 603 looks and sounds like nothing else in the world. I guess back when they were in production, any faults would have been sorted by returning it to the factory not fixed by the person it was allocated to. good luck with your Tatra!
Like anything, there are good ones and bad ones. This one happens to be one of the good ones, having a series of loving owners before we snapped it up from the previous owner. The car runs just great. The reversed 4 on the tree gear shift must be properly adjusted to make driving a pleasure and this one is pretty good. All the electrics works including the warning lights (which is important since you need to know NOW if you lose one of the cooling fan belts -- certain death to these cars.)
I can remember back in the early '90s Tatra was seriously trying to break into the European market (what were they making then? 613?) and a British engineer was developing a fuel injection system to enable it to meet emissions regulations. everyone who drove the car absolutely loved it, even Top gear (TV show). It was a 140 mph car, and would have undercut Jaguar, BMW and AUDI on price and specification. sadly Tatra ran out of money for development and it came to nothing. a tragedy.
super beautiful car!
