Yes, a dance can be copyrighted, as we found out when there was a video that was taken down by YouTube of people dancing the electric slide at a new years eve party. Apparently the guy who came up with the steps claims the copyright and if he finds a video, he submits a copyright violation claim with YouTube. I wish I was joking, but i'm not.
