The below comments are all dumb and uneducated. The Fit is not meant to be fast, it's got an 1.5L I-4 putting out 105hp (L15). You'd be a total idiot to compare it to something with more power. Who cares if it's an Escort? You could compare the Fit to an even older car and it'd still be faster. It's a fuel sipping econobox that is probably the best driving small hatchback I've ever driven.
I lol'd! L15 + automatic + car full of guys = geo metro acceleration! I know the feeling, I've exceeded the cargo limit on my GD3 with people alone before and know how slow she goes. To the guy asking if it's freeway legal... it's standard with an even smaller engine overseas!
@magazinedude2002 Well my friend, considering that most of those "busted-ass old Escorts" had at least a 1.8L engine and probably weighed a little less due to fewer safety items etc. , I think you're probably expecting a bit too much. I test drove a Fit and they definitely make a lotta' racket, but they really don't have the steam to get outta' their own way. My old '87 Mercury Lynx/Ford Escort that I had in high school though, that thing...45mph with the windows down felt somewhat fast ;-)
it's rated high because it gets great gas mileage and has it's "magic seats" that fold down and give you as much room as a full sized mini van. and that's also probably an automatic... i've driven one and they're not THAT slow. i drove the stick and hit probably low 9 second 0-60. little vTecs not that weak.
