Silverado-One Thing Won't Change

I have a 1992 f150 (my ranch truck) with 305 K miles, the only thing replaced was the oil. I had a 1997 Silverado with 181K miles and the tranny broke.

@mohawk58 My 97 Tacoma is 14 years old with 295,000 miles on it and the only thing that's been replaced on it was an alternator and u-joints. Its still on the road today and I trust it to drive 80 miles to work everyday. So yeah that suburban was a piece of shit just like all the other Chevys.

"Built Ford tough" Not tough enough. GM's trucks have always outsold Fords line. Just Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 come close to outselling the entire F-Series line of truck (F150,F250,F350 combined). Silverado has the best expected resale value, lowest expected cost of ownership of any full-sized pickup, and a million other good things that make the Silverado better quality than Ford will ever be. GM has the most powerful 1 ton ever, Fords F150 looks like a car idea that went horribly wrong.

When you look at this it clearly states (IN ST. LOUIS). That means the Silverado was #1 in retail sales in St. Louis. And if you combine 2007 sales of Chevy AND GMC trucks you'd be wrong in our comment.

Fords trucks are simply too big. Notice how they need to cut out a portion of sheet metal in the driver and passengers side doors so the mirrors will put smaller vehicles in view. The size of the Ford truck is unnecessarily large, espeically in a 1/4 ton truck. Hope you have a large wallet for 4 dollar gas.

One thing this truck needs to change is the 4sp tranny.. its sooo 80s.. , The Sierra Denali has 6sp, Titan has 5, Ram has 5, Tundra has 6. So yes something needs to change. Everything else about this truck is good tho..

Nope. I meticulously maintained my vehicles and wash and wax them on a regular basis to protect the paint. I even go to the length of using a UV protective product to go over the exposed plastic.

The new Silverado seems to be a BIG jump forward for Chevrolet and after seeing and hearing things on the buckling tailgate on the Tundra I'm thinking my next full size truck may not be an import. I've considered either Ford or GMC.
