hey alanost 4, if you work at a bike shop how come you cant spell brakes? brakes ARE NOT needed. if your chain brakes you put your foot in the back tire. i dont have a problem with brakes but i do not run them on my fixed gear, flatland bike, or bmx bike and i know more than enough to work in or own a bike shop. just dont tell us how to live our life.

Hey hobotron, if you know so much about bikes how come you can't spell breaks? Your issue with brakes on fixies is just that, an issue. It makes no sense to put looks over safety. A front brake on a fixie makes sense, it works great in combination with skidding.

@ Hobotron, I think brakeless is great! BUT if you get in a collision with a car that may not have seen you and you didn't have time to react to avoid the crash, the authorities will go against you just because your bike doesn't have a brake on it. Trust me, I've been there and it's not fun. In some states, it's illegal to not have a brake.

what is the crap about only being able to do those tricks on a fixed gear? have you watched any bmx videos? trials videos? and you don't have to remove your brakes to do tricks without them. just don't use your brakes.

It's not the brakes that are the issue, it's that fixed gears don't have a freewheel. this means you can't backpedal or coast without stopping the wheel. this is what enables fixies to stand still or move backwards.

you still have to back pedal when doing a roll back on a trials bike, I used to ride down hills backwards on my monty mod. Pedal kicks are way easier with brakes the narrator claims they are immpossible without a fixed gear. Don't get me wrong I like riding fixed gears alot. I'm just pointing out an error.
