  • Now, now.

    Play nice children.

Spirit of cricket and all that ;-)

  • here we go again...this guy never a legend!!! overated throughout his career never can be compared to greats such shane warne, wasim akram.brian lara, sachin tendulker. sir sobers.imran khan.don bradman. murly.....these are serious pioneers of the game......i tell you who is a english cricketing legend proper BATSMAN!!! gooch....now he is a legend!!!!

  • @MrKami1981 Here you go again MrKami1981..13th test wicket taker of all time,15th in list of most test catches, and 5200 test runs-a great ALL ROUNDER-he was exactly that!!

  • Broad just went one better.... 5 for 0.

  • @LiamE69 haha, yeah! i hope the indians show a bit of fight...cos they were truly dismal at Trent Bridge...but hey, after 15 years of getting murdered by the Aussies isnt it great that we are thrashing everybody? enjoy it mate!! CMON ENGLAND!!

  • @neilus WIth Zaheer and Ghambir back I think they are likely to be a lot stronger in the next test. They are still missing Sehwag though.

  • Beefy!!!yeah hes hit the odd copper,,yeah hes smoked the odd dooby,,but at least he walking to John O'Groates for some spastics!!

  • May I recommend the book 'The Ashes, 1945-2005, A Complete Record' by Tony Wagtar.

  • look at the size of his arse, thighs, and midrift, he could bowl a 90 mile an hour ball off a short run up when he was fired up between 78-82

  • I forgot how nippy Botham was in his early career. Shame about his back injuries in the mid-80s, his bowling really declined.

  • test matches may be boring, but winning one is a great feeling.

  • I WAS THERE! as far as english grounds go, Edgbaston cricket ground has the best atmosphere bar none. And this was truly electric, Botham said himself that it was the crowd that took him along in this spell. It is no surprise that 2 of the 3 greatest Ashes tests have been played at Edgbaston (2005 being the other - I WAS THERE too - wat a claim to fame!!)

  • if u had seen this match live, then you are an old person..

  • watch chris old after the 4th wicket...very self conscious in his congratulation. beefy and he didn't see eye to eye - botham thought he was a hypochondriac. but what a spell of bowling this was, still send shivers up my spine

  • yeah bothams ashes was the best way to get in to cricket for me

  • Beefy always saved his best for the Australians.

  • Well the fact is is that no all rounder will ever compare to Ian Botham, i play for Kent and if it werent for meeting Ian Botham i wouldnt play cricket. My dad took me to a game where Ian Botham as watching, i spoke to him and he just inspired to play cricket, now i open the batting for Kent :)

  • @dombeii123 Nice story, but what are you doing on YouTube? Shouldn't you be in the nets after the season you've had... ;)

  • @dombeii123 U PLAY FOR KENT MY ARSE WHATS YOUR NAME

  • @dombeii123 I OPEN THE BOWLING FOR ENGLAND

  • Riche Benaud, voice of cricket

  • a tue legend

  • He's the best allrounder England has ever had, we may never see another Ian Botham. Early on a superb swing bowler. Later on a great wicket taker. Few batsmen have played more important innings than him in tests. What we enjoyed most was that he was human ....got into trouble (most of it made up by tabloids). His work for charity speaks for itself. Top bloke.

  • Awesome cricketer - the game's not been this exciting since

  • Ahhh. Hologen Daize...

  • Botham was the best - a true sporting hero.

  • The greatest all rounder this country has ever produced.

  • Marsh and Lillee played poor shots, Alderman was a rabbit and the other two were very fine deliveries. A great memory! Oh, and the LBW was OUT - the ball did move a fair bit but he didn't get forward, and it did not appear to bounce.

  • Wicket 2 looks dodgy. A great performance anyway.

  • This was first test cricket I ever saw. I remember Headingley and Botham's batting performance. Just amazing.

  • A true English great!

  • No wonder Freddie Flintoff grows his beard!! He's trying to look like the legendary Botham! haha

  • What a hero!

  • Incredible.

  • Possibly the greatest spell of bowling ever. Few can compare to Botham.

  • @Xxkilikx

and one of those few is Bart King

  • @Xxkilikx u mean by an englishman right?

  • @Xxkilikx Mcgrath 21-5 at lords 2005 ... as good i think

  • @jidm5 mcgrath at lords 2005 was excellent bowling, but bothams contribution to that ashes series set him apart from anyone else

  • @fletcher70 I agree.. but in the context of that game .. aussies got bowled out cheaply .. and the 1st wicket was his 500th and the first ball after tea... then one after another fell. they one the game in that passage of play ... england never got over the shock

  • @jidm5 mcgrath and warne to be in an australia side at the same time....england didnt have an answer

  • @fletcher70 Well .. we did because we won the series 2-1 ..

  • @jidm5 yeah true....1981 and 2005...best ever ashes cricket

  • @fletcher70 Agreed . im only 18 so 2005 practically set my love of cricket alight .. but yeh definitely 1981 series also historically a great series

  • @Xxkilikx NO-ONE can compare to Both!

  • absolute legend

  • In 1974 I was ten years old and went to watch Somerset v Leicestershire, Sunday League match at Westlands in Yeovil. I met a school mate there called Graeme and I asked "why you here"? and he said my brother is 12th man for Somerset, and he took me to meet him. That 12th man was the great Ian Botham before he took cricket by storm, still remains something I will never forget. Ian Botham a legend not just for his cricketing exploits but his charity work also. One of life's truly great humans.

  • One of the greatest people ever for my money.

  • @Beckamstoe Lovely words.

  • Thats the way to do it !!!!!!!!

  • Er ... Beefy was born in the Wirral, went to school in Yeovil, Somerset - so how do you say that he's a Yorkshireman?

  • I was 11 when this series happened,i watched it all in the school summer holidays,i remember getting up and it started at 10.50 am,memories you never forget, richie benauld and all that, the australians had channel 9 because the brits had to watch highlights when the ashes was in australia in the old times

  • 1 word- LEGEND!

  • Richie Benaud, bless him, "the crowd have gone (thinks of something suitable to say) noisily beserk"

  • ha that was a great moment

  • Brearley looks ancient. I can't think of another completely grey-haired national captain in the entire history of Test cricket. But what a captain.

  • One other thing . I've never heard an english crowd as loud, as passionate and so jubilant as that one on that July afternoon in Edgbaston. They roared Botham in as he ran to bowl.

  • I'd say Freddie bowling at Edgbaston in his first over in the second innings versus the Australians in the 2005 Ashes Series was pretty special to listen to. That entire over against Ponting after getting rid of Langer to getting Pontings wicket with the seventh delivery the crowd noise built up and built and just exploded in a crescendo of jubilation.

  • Kim Hughes was the Capn.

Botham was swinging it but bowled them out with intimidation and domineering presence more than anything else. Taylor was important in those vital tests as he missed no chances.

Peter Willey looked like a Planet of the Apes character. ;-)

  • kim hughes gave in the australian captaincy in the early seventies, there is a cricket series on the bbc at the moment where it shows th kim hughes incident, kim hughes walked out the press conference because he was unable to speak through emotion

  • Any chance anyone came tell me who the Aussie captain was during tis series? Was it Greg Chappel?

  • Kim Hughes I believe.

  • Paul hogan

  • love ya sir beefy!!

  • i like all the 1980 - 1970 english players. all remind me of classic and vintage porn with those plump , hairy ladies

  • good ol beefy, would do a better job now than the clowns we have got at the moment :(

  • Not only did he have great control of his swing, he had some pretty serious pace when he put his back into it. You could always tell when he was ticking by his run up.

  • Big bafey..the big fella!!

  • "the crowd has gone noisily berserk" what a line. Alway's sweeter against the Aussies.

  • I watched this live and don't think I have ever seen more entertainment on a cricket pitch

  • ditto. Botham was, is and always will be my hero!

  • Boys own hero stuff.

  • Absolutely awesome moment in cricket, Botham's Ashes!

  • awesome absolutely awesome

  • duds... yeah there's no dud quite like an Australian dud!!! Why don't you convicts just piss off and play with yourselves...which you are so adept at!!

  • steady on old bean!

  • Yeah average spell 5 wickets for 1 run, your average return from a pace bowler...Get with the programme.

  • cool- I was at Edgbaston today for Warwickshires pro40 game!

  • One thing they didn't seem to do as much in those days was leave the ball.... unless that's just these videos.

  • Nah, it was just Dennis Lillee. He tended to chase wide ones so that's where they decided to bowl to him. And with players like Geoff Boycott (Fiery!) in the side, an awful lot of balls in those days were left alone!

  • Bloody Beefy! Destroyed us.

  • Well, you can console yourself that we have to cheer ourselves up with great archive footage like this! 2005 apart, the Ashes have been painful since 1989.

  • Legend

  • Best sell of all time

  • Sir Ian Botham!!

  • watch out with slats brett hes already fucked gillys missus looks like hes eyeing up your skirt. By the looks of it shed be on to. looks like a bit of a goer your missus and old slats would love to have his balls bouncing on her chin.

  • Kiwi-speak for "Hello, how are you? Look forward to the match."

    Oddballs.

  • An all-time hero of English cricket of any era. Should be in charge today!

  • what a spell of bowlinf-Fantastic

  • I want to know how you can possibly tell from that camera angle how it was out or not!? :D

  • whenever the both appealed it was out -period

  • Alan Border, Third Test, 1st Innings at Headingley was a truly terrible decision. But who cares about that in the big (Beefy) picture that was that incredible match?!

Bright was more or less caught bang in front in this one. Even if you need glasses and think he wasn't, look in the proverbial, mates!

  • agree with nick...bright was not lb!!! regardless, beefy da man!

  • no way bright was LBW!

  • I think you'll find if you check the score book - he was... HAH!

  • Oh happy happy memories!

  • The greatest English cricketer in my life-time!

  • superb player should be made englands bowling coach kevin shine is rubbish not even a test cricketer
