OMG! I'm a beginner trying to teach myself how to knit and this has been the best video I've seen so far about how to change colors. Other methods I found online required cutting off string, or making a mess on the 'back side'. This one is just what i was looking for! Thanks for the great video!!! :D
Okay. i can get pas tthe hwite and all that jazz but is it ever maddening that I can't figure out how to not get the dumb dotted line on the other side of the scarf! is this normal!?! Not all scarves have this!! MADDENING!
if you should be mad at anyone, it should be expert village. she was asked to do this, she didn't make this video. there are plenty of other videos out there that go step by step in detail...go there...but i'll tell you it's the same thing.
This is actually a very good video, and I'm a continental-style knitter learning to change colours and it was nice seeing a video of a continental knitter changing colours. So what if she pronounces the "h" in white. That's the way its pronounced if you speak RP English (Received Pronunciation English - the way the BBC international radio broadcasters speak!) although this lady is American and all her other words are American pronunciation. Doesn't bother me. The video's great!
It's an excellent video. If you find it too fast, you can stop the frames at any point to imitate the fingering, or back it up to any point. Tthat's the advantage of videos over diagrams or photos
certain people say white the correct way which has the W more pronounced and it just depends on where you were raised not everyone talks the same or life would be way too boring. they used to say white that way until it evolved over time.
Thaaaank you!!! I'm a beginner (started knitting on December 29th, 2010), and just watched your video today (January 6th, 2011). This was VERY easy for me to understand. I've only been crocheting since October, but I've gotten that down with Youtube videos too, but knitting takes the cake!
yep this demo is too fast. Def not a video for beginners but you know what even if I wasnt a beginner, the vid is supposed to teach someone something so it really should be slower. arrrrg!
Ok, some of you seriously need a lesson in manners >_>
Anyway, this video was a little tricky to get, but not as bad as most of you are making it out to be. I watched it twice and was able to pick it up, you can't just automaticly "get" something, you have to practice. Knitting isn't easy people, calm down lol
Thank You so much for this, I every 12 rows would cut my yarn everytime I wanted to switch, now I don't and this makes it look so much better!!! Thanks again!
The only thing I'm getting frustrated with is that she goes all slow for the pointless parts but when I want to know how the hell she weave's in the other end of the blue/green, her hand gets in the way of the camera and does some weird loop and pull and does it all fast and she loses me! So ANNOYING
if you don't like it watch a different video instead of criticizing her when she is just making a tutorial if you don't get it watch one that you will not every video works for certain people.
Dear Alison, thanks so much for this video, I corrected my silly mistake immediately. U R so right, just the other day I tried to add another yarn to my existing work, as I didn't know how to bring along the old yarn, it became 1 long strand up the side & too tight after several rows. I had to rip off the whole new yarn!
this is great Thank you. I bought Knitting for dummies to learn all the things i didnt know but sometimes its easier to hear and see it done than read it.
After searching soooo many videos, finally one that teaches you how to carry the main color with the new color. Thanks for the video!!

Hold on, so we don't need to tie any knots anywhere?
This is easier than I thought it was. So we just weave in the ends when we're done?

Holy crap this woman knits fast. And I wanna slap her for saying hhhuuuwiat. Instead of WHITE, your not supposed to pronounce the H so much geez.

@xVani11a
the /hw/ phoneme (vs. the /w/ phoneme) is the original pronunciation.
and many people pronounce the /hw/ sound -- it's much more common than you may think. keep an eye out for it and you'll notice it.
(google search "phonological history of wh" for more info.)
also, i find that i hear it from intellectual people more often. i don't know if it's just me.
