yeah, and nobody ever asks what's with Bono Voxe's sun glasses all day (and night) long. why does everyone have a problem with the paint around the eyes? every front man has all rights to be eccentric in a way ;)
Peter Gabriel would dress up as a flower with Genesis back in the seventies......so who knows. I think it looks kinda cool. Like a "new wave" American Indian in war paint!
if iam somewhere, this songtext is, which the first in my mind ( coriander steam and rose of hay, watch the rode and memorize etc )so i love it - but only after country feedback
If they sounded exactly like they do on their albums when they played live, they would be Britney Spears or Ashley Simpson, now, wouldn't they? That's kind of the point of a LIVE show. You should be watching MTV if you want the "exactly like the album" sound.
In the album version, Mike does the high harmony and Bill the low harmony -- they probably decided Scott's voice is lower and more fitting for the low harmony? I think Mike sounds great, as usual (and he sounded great in the version with Ken, too), and I feel like Scott's backup comes closer to sounding like Bill's from the Tourfilm version.
The drums sound so wrong.

Incredible how they sound and look like a cover band now. The melodica sound emulated on keyboard is absolutely tasteless.

By far my favourite song by R.E.M. I always pretended to have trouble falling asleep as a kid so my Dad would play this on the guitar for me.

there's a version of this song on tourfilm if i'm not mistaken. does anyone have the mtv unplugged version mentioned before?

Tourfilm chronicles their 1989 Green World Tour--three years before this song was written.

This is definitely in their top five best songs. It's certainly the best song on AFTP.

Why isnt Ken doing the backing vocals? His vocals on the MTV unplugged version are better than Mike and Scott's.

does anyone know where you can hear the unplugged version?
