@16rmegan No, I never feed them. They are outside all summer long and they are designed by nature to lure and catch their own insects, which they do. Remember, since they are green plants, most of their nutrients are produced via photosynthesis just as the grass and trees do. They catch insects to supplement their need for nitrogen and phosphorus which is lacking in the soil that they are adapted to survive in. If they fail to catch enough insects, they rely on their use of the sun.

@N1gHtStAlKeR726 I started in 1996 with about 10 plants. Over the years they have expanded, as all plants seem to do, whether by seed or just widening of the rhizome.
@lotrrules3434 Remember, they are green plants so they get much of their nutrients from the soil and light from the sun as all green plants do. They supplement their diet that is short in nitrogen (because of the poor soil they have adapted to) by catching insects on their own, which they are very good at. Like a flower uses its ability to attract a bee, so is the VFT in a way. If they caught no insects, they would still survive as a green plant does, however not as healthy as they could be.
@Zombiekilla5310 My guess for a professional grower, of which I am not, the cost depends on the age of the bulb. I haven't priced them lately, but I figure a 2 year old bulb would be somewhere between 5 and 10 dollars. Just a guess. You can Google carnivorous plant suppliers and check the various sites to compare prices.
@ivanburgi Thanks for the comment. I am sorry, but I do not allow very many of the plants to set seeds. The few seeds I get I put back into the pot so that the size keeps expanding.
@ivanburgi You should take a look at my newest vid, Venus Flytraps Love Gold, because in that video, you can see how much the pot has grown in a year. You can also see the increase in trap size.
@swat007jp My collection was started in 1996, at which time I ordered an assortment from two growers. I had maybe 10 plants total. Then I found a few in small plastic pots being sold at a Lowes Home Center about10 years ago. I am guessing I many have some of the larger types in the pot, (can't prove it) but they look like and are about the size of this particular breed. Maybe 5 years ago I bought 4 or so from another store. Over time all have multiplied over time and cross pollinated.
@swat007jp No, but I will look into it. Did you watch my latest video, done a couple of weeks ago, named Venus Flytraps Love Gold? In that one, the plants are a year older and the pot is much larger and some traps are larger than pictured in this older video.
@61699taylor Well, my first several plants were planted in 1996 and they were two year old plants then. Of course, over the years, they have multiplied by just spreading and via seeds produced. All, I can say is that it appears one can really grow these same plants for many many years if you handle their horticulture correctly. All the rules must be followed in order to permanently keep them growing and expanding in size.
I just got a VFT they are babys. i feed them ants. when its time for them to hybernate what all do i need to do? i spelt that wrong but oh well. help any one?
@motocrossgurl18 There is a lot to learn about these plants and no way to easily sum it up here. I would subscribe to SarraceniaNorthwest on YT and watch some of their videos. They also have a presence on the web and they have all the information you will ever need on the VFT.
@danpats1 I wish you good luck. I started this pot in 1996 with some 2 year old plants. Some years they grow better than other years. However, ever so slowly they sort of multiply and I think it is mostly by add ons to the rhizomes.
@TamboresDeJaykub How about, there you go Miss trap. If you watch my video on the VFT that bites a finger and wants a diamond too, you will see why I used Miss. lol
Yeah, I have a few red dragons and and few normals(about 2 years old). Won't take them out of the "cold room" for a few more weeks. I can only hope they grow to that extent. For being a plant, certianly not an easy one to care for.
@cdemanelis Sarracenia Northwest has a YT channel that is quite good. This company located in Oregon also sells great CP plants and CDs that give one all the secrets to growing these very unusual plants. They can tell you everything you will ever need to know about successful growing techniques.
@cdemanelis Thank you. It takes much knowledge and a lot of time to grow these plants which are highly endangered. Some have called them the most magnificent plants in the world. In ways, based on their complex nature, I have to agree. Thanks for the comment.
@bladefans123 Yes they are. There are many plants in that pot. I started with just a few in 1996 and they just kind of spread over time. Thanks for the comment.
@edufetesti Well, I am new to videos, so I just sort of did this at a moments notice. I figured some young biology students on YouTube might like it. These plants have always fascinated me. There are really none quite like them in the world, although there are other carnivorous plants that live in the wild.
o, my God what I see here! I think is very dangerous to plant it & to grow it :)) Looks strange and creepy! The Venus Flytrap is a carnivore plant. Have u heard it when scream: "Feed me! Feed Me?" :))
Can the plant live indoors with other plants. Would this help take down them little flys that are taking over the house?
iAnthrit 1 month ago
@iAnthrit They are really out door plants and they require a dormancy period like Northern trees do. All mine grow outdoors.

So do you have to feed every trap? or can you just feed like 5 and the whole plant is fed?
