@bobbytee7934 We don't hate white history we hate stereotypes about us. I always love baseball just because whites and Latinos is the majority of doesn't mean anything
Frankly, I don't understand your comment. If you're saying you don't like Detroit because black people don't like white people, that's unfair to Detroit. There are white people who don't like black history also. As far as I'm concerned, both groups are out of touch with reality and way off base. I don't have time for people who don't like other people. I don't care what color they are.
If I could have one piece of memorabilia from the old ballpark, it would have to be one of the trough urinals...strange, yes, but I remember having to get on my tiptoes as a boy just to be able to use them.
It is so ridiculous that this stadium could not have been preserved as an international landmark as one of the most significant stadiums ever built that hosted major league baseball and literally saw probably 95% of everyone in the hall of fame play down there on "the corner". Almost makes me sick that they tore it down. I miss the stadium..... a lof of memories.
One of my favorite ballparks. I've always liked the way the ball would sometimes ferociously bounce off the front of the upper deck on a home run. Thanks for the memories TS.
To finish this, and give you an idea of how stupid people are here in Detroit, there is no viable plan for the re-use of this facility. At best, it MAY host a baseball game of some kind periodically, but, the city will continue to own it and pay millions to maintain it and protect it (at a huge finacial loss). No minor league teams want to come to play there (already been tried) and no long-term money-making venture will save it. The group trying to save it will eventually run out of money too.
For all of you who don't understand why it's taking so long to finish this job let me explain: Here in Detroit we allow things to stand and rot for years and years before finally dealing with reality. In this case, there is a non-profit group who has the ear of the city council and they believe they can raise funds to save a portion of the ballpark...for what purpose? They can't say. Eventually it will all have to come down but years will have passed and for what? Nothing. Tyical for Detroit.
Wait...this is still up? I thought this was torn down a long time ago. This is sad. Whenever I see this stadium, I always remember an amazing catch Griffey Jr. made.
Old Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois was quite similar to this park in construction. When that was demolished in 1991, they needed to put the wrecking ball to it as well, I heard that the solid brick and mortar construction would make the use of TNT not as practical for whatever reason.
Well first of all, you do not sound like an idiot. It's taking some time now because a decision was made by the City of Detroit to allow a certain group of people to raise enough money to preserve part of the park. They raised it...now we're waiting for all of that discussion to be finalized.
A few things. Thank you for serving in Vietnam. Also, thank you for all these videos. I'm only 19 but have fond memories of all various kinds of games and activities at the field. It's a real shame. =(
Believe me, I know how you feel. I think the best remedy is to make it a point to get over to the new stadium. If you haven't been there...you have to go! It helps get the bad taste out. Comerica Park is something to brag about.
would it be possible for you to maybe get a shot of the field itself or maybe an aerial shot? I know it's a bit much but i like the way that you listen to your viewers, by the way Where cani get a copy of your book?
Thanks for the update, there just isn't much left anymore. I read in the free press today they are instructed to stop at each dugout, it looks like along the rightfield line the demoliton has stopped there. How much is your book? Where can I get a copy at?
Love this old stadium. Sad to see it go down. I remember Fielder hitting a HR on the roof in CF

Went there as part of tour group back in '96. We sat in the upper deck behind 3rd. base. It turned out to be Cecil Fielders' last game as a Tiger.

@icemanj12 Tiger Stadium could have been saved with 50% of the money it took to build what's there now.

i think the is more painful to watch than shea stadium or bucsh stadium II since those 2 were taken down in the offseason rather than waiting years.

well since the park is about mostly gone
won't they use dynamite and blow it up

Nothing of any significance. I understand there is a plan now to preserve the area between the two duggouts but no details about that yet.

over the last 8 years, have they been using the stadium for anything?

I heard that a few years back an investigation went on about people paying security guards to enter the playing field. Is this true?
