  • i love buying cds... often i find local bands, that i love and cant find them online!!!

therefore i buy their cd. and the idea is just amazing.

  • If CD's dies, I'll commit suicide...

  • I order my PHYSICAL CD's online. Problem solved.

  • I, for one, don't care very much if the CD went away. I collect mostly Vinyl anyways, then I download via iTunes, Amazon, etc. for my iPod to listen to in the car. Vinyl at home & downloads/iPod in the car, that's the way I go. But if they completely quit pressing Vinyl, I'd be PISSED!!!

  • I use Vinyl, Cd's, Tapes, 8 tracks and MP3

  • I'm 20, and i have recently started a CD collection in 2009. It's not a big collection, but i have many great artists, such as classic rock bands like Beatles, Led zeppelin, pink floyd, nirvana and others. And im a fan of indie/alternative like the strokes, mgmt, black keys and arctic monkeys. I dont really like buying music online because i doesnt have the same feel as listening to a cd while looking at a booklet and seeing artwork, lyrics and maybe some cool photos.

    CDs are awesome!

  • I've been collecting vinyl since the mid-90's, but i started to buy CD in 2009, and i have a pretty small but good collection of CD's. I dont think cds should die.

  • What Will The World Do Without Any CDs? Possibly The CDs Will Get Replaced By ZEs :0

  • im 16 and i take a 30 minute trip to Amoeba( music store) to buy my cd's and i like it

  • CDs need to stay.

  • if cds die i will pull a cobain. i just love having my collection on my shelf('s)

  • THEY NEED 2 STAY!!!!!!!!

  • I love going out and buying a CD! And picking it up scratch free in it's little cellophane wrapper. Then you getting home and taking the disk out of it's little house and clicking it into place in the CD player. Then taking out the little booklet that comes inside the plastic case, to have a look at either the lyrics or artwork of the album in question. It's great! And so, so, so much better than clicking the mouse a few times and having nothing but a crappy little snap of the cover to look at!

  • HEEEELL NO they should stay

  • i think the cd's should stay around because i enjoy going out to the record store and looking at the other bands albums and seeing which one to buy. i also like going home and putting the album in my music libary. if the albums disaper you will no longer be able open up the cover and read the lyrics to there songs. if every artiest starts putting their albums online everybody will be getting their lyrics misunderstood and start thinking they mean something else from what they're actually saying.

  • Whats a CD?

  • I just don't feel good when I buy music on the internet, it's not an experience, it's shopping. For me, putting the CD in the player, sitting down, and listening to it is a feeling that can't be beat. I've even downloaded whole albums and put it on a blank CD and it still doesn't feel the same, having the physical form of it gives a sense of security. I don't want them to die out, and the sad thing is, they probably will, and that's a shame.

  • NEVERRRRRRR!!!!

  • cd will never die

  • The argument that has been forgotten - you can't wrap up a digital download of an album by your mate's favourite band to give them as a present.

  • @gibsonsg1423 hahahaha, thnxs, 3 inches of blood are awesome btw! DEADLY SINNERS!!!!!

  • I think it'll take a bit longer before they're completely vintage and ancient, but it's not gonna stop me from buying them! I appreciate having the physical copy and actually giving the artist credit where it's due.

  • I just love having physical copies. Also, how will I listen to music in the car? I don't like buying things that doesn't reward me with something physical in the first place, like membership in a video game.

  • @maulingunow There's one car company, can't remember which, that has already phased it out of installing a CD player in their cars... it's now by USB or connecting your iPod to the system.

  • The next decade of listening to music will be via internet streaming, financed either by ads or paid subscription.

  • NOOOOO!!!! I love CDs. I certainly hope not.

  • I doesnt sound as good digitally. Like Loveless by My Bloody Valentine sounds horrible on a computer or ipod but sounds great on cd.

  • I still love CDs. Right now I'm in Germany on tour with my band (fights and fires), and CDs are a still a huge part for unsigned bands to tour. If you go to a show and see a band you like, it's alot easier to by their cd there and then. It helps you listen to the music quicker, and it gives the band some gas money. Yes we are on iTunes, but we only get a royalties cheque every few months.

    Keep CDs!

  • CDs must not die

  • I buy all my CD's. Physically.

I normally buy used CD's-as in up to $7. So rather than paying $16 for a CD with 16 songs, I'd get it for about $6. I happen to thoroughly enjoy every last CD I have. I don't really tell kids at my school about it, they normally think what I'm doing is stupid.

  • You really opened my eyes: I firmly believed that Coldplay's new album was titled :"Dildo Dogshit The Magnificent: Whiny Music for Hip Fucktards". I stand corrected. Otherwise,I very much enjoy my physical collection of albums, jewel case,LP jacket, liner notes, stickers, lyric pages...etc. If vinyl won't die,if motherfucking BetaMax won't die,I don't think CD's should ether. Great post, most correct you are. One more idea; throw away the CBGB T-Shirt,sooooooo played out.

  • CDs for life!

  • rather buy the actual CD than a download any day . something to keep forever rather than some file on the computer

  • For me, CDs have a kind of nostalgic value to me, but I wouldn't really care if they are phased out. On the other hand, I love vinyl, not only because of the infinitely better quality (unless you always use lossless files, which take up SO much more space on a hard drive) but also because of the intimate connection I feel to an album when I have to interact with it on such an immediate level, as you do with vinyl. So I hope vinyl holds out a while, but I'm not too attached to CDs.

  • CDs shouldnt be removed. It's hard to get the best quality of music through mp3, and i like the feeling of going to the album store and looking at all the beautiful album art, and searching for my favourite band, and i like bonus stuff inside my album. I also feel proud when i own an album, it's an awesome feeling, digital music is no use, if your digital playlist or albums get hacked, you're good as dead.

  • People like it hard, give them hard.

  • vinyl looks so nice compared to cd... i buy a record of an album if i really like it.

  • I'd rather have the physical copy because, like sammi said, i like to be able to look at all of my cd's and feel pride.

  • Physical copies shouldn't because of PIRACY... I'm not from US nor Europe nor any country that's got lots of internet security. I've got a 40GB music library and I havent paid a penny of it.. BUT those records that I like the most I go out and buy it, just because having it is FUCKING AWESOME. I'm not the only one that does that. If CDs dissapear record companies would lose like 15% of their income, not much, but they're losing money...

  • physical copy forever!

  • Well, if the CD is lulu, then it can go away anytime.

  • @andrewvault haha

  • Yes... I agree with you!!!

I love to have a hard copy of my music...

And I do get a good feeling that I have collected all of these cds and show them off to people!!

  • But i love having the hard copy of things!

  • The problem with a digital purpose is the License rights. Whatever you download it to has the License to the rights. Even if you copy the music on to another device the license is still on the original device. So if something happens to that device your legal purchase apparently has no proof. Physical copies are much better

  • this will just increase illegal downloading.

  • they shouldn't,because that shit is fucking awesome,I just love going to the recored store and looking at everything, hell on day when I have kids I'll make them listen to all kinds of recording weather its disk kaset or record or cd or ipod,oh yeah and I'm planing this for my master plan, and I'm 13 and i know this stuff

  • I don't think they will. The only reason the others were phased out was because a more useful kind of physical media came out. As it stands, there really isn't (not including vinyl).

  • I love CDs. If someone hacks my iTunes and deletes everything, it's gone forever. If I have CD I can just put it back on my computer. I was so pissed when my local FYE closed, cuz it was the only place I could find a ton of bands I love.

  • i love my cds. end.

  • phaze out cds.

    keep pressing vinyl.

  • They'll become marginalised, as the vinyl record has done but they won't die entirely for a long time because the majority of people don't have a record player so it's their only feasible way of having a physical copy.

  • I rather have a cd in my stocking than an itunes gift card.

  • I dont like downloading. I dont feel like a music fan if i do. I go to the store and buy them.

  • Keep cds I don't trust computers

  • If physical copies of an album or a single die, I will refuse to buy any music. Fuck the music industry and DRM. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Cd's ARE digital.I always buy cd's,and I LOVE my collection. But I can always rip it to my computer then put it on my mp3 :P

  • @oohhhyyeeaahhh CD's aren't mp3 quality though, they are way better. MP3 quality is the worst, so to make only mp3s available to the market takes away enjoyment of future music.

  • This is bull shit! I want the physical copy!

  • I could see the likes of Rihanna and other crap like that only using digital but I think real bands will produce CD`s for another few years as cds are more special with the book and pictures etc.. they have more soul like real bands have compared to other modern day crap

  • Fuck digital downloads..

it puts all the power in the hands of the record companys.

Just like downloading games. They wan't to keep us from sharing them with our friends etc. this is their way to earn even more money, because now we can't lend our games and music to our friends anymore. they have to buy copys themselves... and people are too retarded to understand this. fuck...

  • hell, i just started buying cd's and and there is just so much pride!!

  • i dont care how coldplay or green day (gigantic label crap) sell their albums us music fans and underground artist love the cd and vinyl, no it wont die is part of the culture .cassette died beacouse they where ugly and hard to storage.( people still realease some albums in cassette).

  • I personally have collected CDs over the years, and have started a vinyl collection a few years ago, and I just love having the physical copy of the music. the artwork, the lyrics and liner notes, pictures, etc. I just love holding the entire package in my hands, as music is art.

I do believe that CDs will phase out, but I just hope that vinyl keeps getting more popular and cheaper. I do have lots of music in my iTunes, but I will always enjoy more having the actual CD or vinyl!

  • @xblakFadeFilmsx That's exactly how i feel. I usually order or buy a Physical CD then put it on my I-Tunes/I-Pod. I have only downloaded an album once or twice from Amazon because the CD costed like £14 and the download was only £6...

  • I like CDs. I like vinyls. Hell, I even like digital. But digital is the most boring, the only good thing about it is that it becomes very easy to take with you.

  • I was glad when tapes went cuz they were crap - tape would get twisted and play tracks backwards or melt on the dashboard in the car on a hot day - I did that :(

Vinyl was cool but if the needle broke that was it - a music free night :(

So I love CD's and wish them to stay but can get scratched after over playing, I do wonder that they are going to phase them out anyway but they would be fools to do so.......

I like looking at the CD artwork and reading the lyrics too - internet not the same.

  • CD's should never die, because then we would lose a key characteristic to the band's message, personality and overall tone to an album! the album artwork is just not gonna be the same coming from a 3x1 inch screen, and if you're like me and you love staring at an album cover while listening to the song, its just not gonna feel the same.

  • CD's will never die and shouldn't

  • i lvoe buying albums:D i uy em on the internet then get it sent to me but i prefer buying them instore

  • I still buy CD's too. I go to Tunes to pick out new and used ones because i love having the books that come with it and reading the liner notes. Also i love having a mass collection to show off too. :)

  • If cds go away...then the music industry is dead..because if i cant get my cds...im going illegal downloads

  • @xxxWolFangxxx Good point :0

  • if I can buy the cd I buy the cd at a store but if I can't i cry and then buy it online

  • The only cd I've bought digitially, was the recent Two Steps From Hell, since it wasn't available physically. Damn you

  • I think that most ppl download music because they play the s**t out of their favourite song, get bored of it, and then delete it. which is good for them because they can get one song that they like instead of having to pay £10 for an extra 10 songs that they dont like and lose space on their shelves.

However, dedicated fans show our love for artists by buying the WHOLE album in physical form, cover art, lyrics and all to show our support of the artist and to build up an awesome collection

  • CD's are important to music man, just like vinyl, just like tapes, and every other audio listening device. Granted, mp3 format saves more $ for "packaging" but you know what? We want the physical cd's, not just some file. What if your computer gets wiped? Then what? Re buy ALL those albums? No, hard copy will keep on living. Its easier and better to manage, and its aesthetic as well as sentimental. My mom gave me her Led Zeppelin IV Vinyl LP and just to have it means something. Its tradition!

  • I would be devastated without cds. I also still go to the store to buy the hard copy, or at least buy them on amazon. I need to have the artwork etc. and have my collection continue to grow in my living room. Also its just easier to grab a couple cds for the car rather than struggle to hook up my ipod and when one cd is done have to scroll to find the next one I'm in the mood for.

  • i love my cds.

  • look at all the comments people love the cd fucking cds rule major asses but as we all know the company's that make cds, radios so on so forth if they want to get rid of cds it will be a sad day cause they will get there way FUCKING COMPANY'S CAN KISS OUR ASSES WITH THERE DUMB IDEAS

  • continued from last comment.......it be a big mistake to get rid of cds i mean thats how bands get fans maken new albulms with nice covers and a sometimes big booklet with lyrics and pics theres nothing better then taking your new cd of your favorite band putting it into your small classic boombox with headsets just laying back and jamming or relaxing witch one you prefer.what happens if we got that y2k thing years ago and all the computers went down for good then all the music would be lost :(

  • There is a part in the guitar documentary "It might get loud!" where Jimmy page is in a room in his house listening to a record. His walls are made up of cabinets holding records, placed side by side. That is my target!

  • i understand both sides cause yes most albums bought these day are online but ill ask a question what kind are bought ipod kind or cd kind i say cd because 1 if you buy mp3 tracks you put on ipods some pods are small your able to lose them or sit on them you could also lost your tracks if your comp gets a virus & 2 most cd's ain't in local stores you would hear about new band/cds but wont be able to find it instead of tossing them out why not upgrade cds and make them more non scratchy

  • a pice of me wil die if cd`s disappear.

  • I want them to stay or how else I'm gonna ever finish my collection?

  • they won't phase them away, and if they do, a new physical format should come out

if they fade out, it won't be by the end of next year

(I love buying a physical album, it's a great feeling)

  • CDs should be replaced with USB sticks with album art on them with like 4gb of material related to the band xDDD

  • Fuck that if they get ride of the CD I will just pirate all the music online, I feel the CD helps in purchasing the album or songs, If Its online and only digital i'm not buying!

  • Fuck getting rid of CDs. Having physical albums are awesome, and I Love making "mixed tapes' on CDs.

  • All CDs should cost like 5 to 7 bucks. I feel like a lot more people would buy CDs

  • As long as there is ac dc, there WILL be cd's

  • no, i still like to buy cd's, like you said, its really cool when you have those cd's with you, i dont want cd,s to be removed :(

  • no i dont want it to go away i fuckin suck at finding music on itune and shit like that i even have my friend do it for my iphone i love cds there awsome u just bbuy it and the songs are over there i rather have my songs on albums than downloads it feels more special you have something that in a few years can have alot of value well if what your saying is the case i gotta buy all offspring and all other legendary bands's albums before its too late man ima miss the cd :(

  • Having a physical CD makes it more special! :)

  • No way. There's way to many of them to not e forgotten. They're just great!

  • I hope the hell not, i love buying Cd's i have like a collection of 500 and im 20 years old. I love music and hate digital. if im gonaa spend the 10 dollars i want the whole product. lol just like you said im very proud of my collection

  • I WILL FOREVER BUY CD'S. <3

  • Fuck this. I'm 17. And actually having a CD in its case with its cool little album art is way better than having an mp3 file. Every so often i just take some of my CD's from my shelf and look at the cover and read the little booklets inside. its fucking awesome!

  • @IamPUDDiiN yeah i so agree with you i love taking out the booklet and reading the lyrics while listening to the track

  • I hate CD's, they get scratched up or lost or stolen but also it's almost the only way to play music out loud at someones house unless they have a USB drive for iPod or MP3 players.

  • @TreverUndeadXpdX But also CD's do hold memories. The only CD I bought was Bullet For My Valentine's 'The Poison' and I would think of the intro of the song that is next and because of that CD it got me listening to Metal. Plus the rare CD's you can find like EP's and stuff like that is awesome to keep either for show or to listen to.

  • lol I still buy/steal records. So i hope CDs don't die cuz i love the physicality is great

  • Vinyl almost went away... But then they realized how awesome it was so they kept it.

I don't think CDs will die anytime soon. But I hope to God vinyl never dies.

  • like u said there's a pride in a physical collection u don't get with iTunes. I would always prefer a cd over an mp3 because I love looking at the album artwork and being able to read the lyrics as the songs play. It's the same feeling with vinyl but I'm too poor for that :P

  • The only time that I buy MP3s is either if I only kinda-sorta want the album or if I have an itunes gift card. But even so the only time I go to a record store is to buy $1 CDs of complete unknown-don't-even-exist-anymore-bands.(yes, $1 CDs...it's so beautiful :') ) Any CDs that I buy are off Amazon. So basically, if CDs die, so will I.

  • The CD, has already died, it has been replaced by online music buyin sites,

  • Yeeea Enuff Z Nuff XD

  • vinyl disc , and tapes should come back! they give better audio.

  • Would be sad if CD's were away, but i hope Vinyl will never die !

  • hey sammy, whats a good band name?

  • I love my CD collection, I only buy Cds, computers are unreliable and if they crash your music is gone. Cds provide a hard copy that you can use digitally too.

  • Don't want them or DVDs, or physical games discs to go away, I want to own what I pay for and no B.S. DRM. And its not easier for the crappy quality MP3 downloads, and not everyone has a credit card. I hate the 2000s.

  • Don't want them or DVDs, or physical games discs to go away, I want to own what I pay for and no B.S. DRM.

  • i liked this because of flashy graphics

  • I love CDs and i buy them all the time. I currently have over 100 cds on my shelf and i rarely buy music online. It will eventually die but not in 2012. Also id prefer if CDs were packaged in cardboard or whatever the hell they use on special edition cd/dvd albums instead of plastic. I always snap the hinges somehow

  • @RetroRifleGuitarist2 Dissagree with cardboard I bought the new Foo Fighters album it was cardboard got ruined! torn apart by my shitty shelf it got stuck to the paint of the shelf and the artwork tore off! If a CD case breaks you can just go to Wal-Mart and buy new ones with out having to replace the actual album.

  • Not yet. Eventually will, of course. But then again, it may return like vinyl did (there's a shelf or two of vinyls in local record stores).

What will NEVER die is Music.

  • The reason I buy CD's is because of the amazing lossless quality of the CD. Why would I pay the same price, or sometimes MORE to download shitty-quality compressed MP3 files from iTunes when I can get the same album on Amazon, in CD format, for $5?

  • it baffles my mind that people would want to pay for mp3 files when they can have a physical copy

  • @AntZombie121 I only download Bonus Tracks,B-Sides,Demos,and out of stock albums.

  • @AntZombie121 It baffles my mind that people pay for mp3

  • dude i wud love to say dat i want cd's to live on bt the plastic is horrible for the environment, i mean ya it's a bit hypocrytical since i use them in the car all the time bt honestly, the envirnment wud srsly be helped if we stopped using so much plastic

  • I would HATE to see CD's die!!! I want to be able to see the artwork and everything!!!

  • The day CD's will disappear and music is only available through online purchase is the day I start illegally downloading music from the pirate bay I am not going to pay for "1010100111001100110011100101010011100" I will NEVER do that...

  • also, it'd be quite upsetting for me if my band got to release an album, but it was only available through digital download. Not having our own CD release would be a kick in the face, after working hard for it

  • CDs probably won't... but vinyl is around forever.

  • i dont see the point in paying the same price for a digital download of an album, when i could buy the actual album with the book in etc for the same price. i love the nostalgia of cd's also... so no, they better not!

  • Is that a drawing of Brody Dalle behind you?

  • @timbo177 yup

  • I don't pay for a digital download, I never go to the record store, I BUY CD's ONLINE... YEAH!!! Amazing :D I don't like to pay for a file on my computer that I need to backup incase it crasher or whatever. I WANT PHYSICAL and ORIGINAL Copy of everything I buy :P But being the music fan that I am I never Download music for free unless it is something I already OWN! :P I don't have time to be ripping, or audio grabbing my cds, geez and I refuse to pay twice for an item i have :P

  • I think it will be possible for collectors to get them, like there are bands that still give out special vinyl releases for those hardcore fans who wants to have a collection showing that they love this band. So no, cd's wont die

  • @PetraRocks100

Give it 15 or so years and you may be right...CDs may become a niche market like vinyl, but probably not on the same prestige level, given that the CD is younger and cheaper to produce.

  • CDs maybe, Vinyl:No

  • I'm a huge supporter of tangible music. However, it could also be looked at in a business viewpoint as well. If music is only available for download online, why would people bother paying for it if they're already going through the same process? I like to support the artists (along with holding the record), but at the point where it's all digital, the only short term difference for the listener is paying, or getting it for free. I think we know what most people would go for.

  • Don't know if it'll go away entirely any time soon, it'll probably become more of a niche market, but go away entirely, I think it'll be a while before that happens. Basically it's about whether or not there is a market for CD's, if there's a market and people willing to pay for it, it won't go away.

I certainly don't hope it gets faced out any time soon, love CD's!!

  • Everything has to come to an end at some point, but might as well enjoy it while we can. Digital is going to bring things forward and is going to evolve into something else later on too.

  • Digital sales take away all the fun and sense of pride that you have in your music collection. For example if you spent months hunting down and album, and you finally get it, and cherish and play it all the time. It's a hell of a lot more rewarding than going on iTunes...clicking a song, downloading it, and playing it... it takes away the emotional attachment you once had with music. its sad :/

  • SAMI ! PLEASE SHOW US YOUR CD COLLECTION!!!! :D

  • @Devastatiionz1 he already made a video showing his cd collection a couple of months ago

  • I love CDs, but they should make them scratch proof

  • CDs may die one day, but vinyl will never die.

  • What if your computer crashes? Then, you lose ALL of your music

  • ENUFF Z'NUFF FTW!

    You're so awesome Sami.

  • @ZyxthePest I know

  • They should stay, all I buy really is CDs, they do sound better then downloads!

  • CDS ARE WHAT ARE NEEDE IF THEY FADE AWAY THEN MUSIC WILL DIE

  • I'm not sure if CDs themselves will die, but they probably will. On the other hand, I don't they'll stop making physical copies of music, whether they be CDs or whatever comes in the future.

  • CD quality surpasses the shitty digital downloads that are in compressed mp3 format (all of itunes)....long live the cd!

  • I hope not, I love CD's. Me and my dad are real music freaks and we like to ask what CD's we've bought recently or bring eachother some albums to listen to. Many of my friend's thinks it's a big waste of money to buy CD's because you can download it. Well, I take pride in buying CD's and support the bands I listen to. There's something awesome about having a CD collection of your favourite albums, is it not? Last CD I bought was Motörhead's "The Wörld Is Yours".

  • i only listen to them in my car now a days

  • if Vinyl is making a comeback then CD's will never die unless they make more of those turn your Vinyl into MP3 files record players but they are expensive the only reason that I don't buy vinyl is because its too DAMN expensive I mean shit I don't even think records were that much when they first came out and the record players are really expensive in short make Vinyl records and the record players affordable and I'll start buying LP's but I LOVE me my plastic CD's so yeah CD's will never DIE

  • i feel exactly the same as u sammy im always buying cds still theyre slowly becoming obsolete but its gonna take a little more than another year for that to happen

  • I'm spinning a Pantera 'Vulgar display of power' CD on my ring finger right now

  • I think it might even go to like Flash drive But i on the other hand...Im one for the LP's =)

  • While dvds are still needed in third world countries, yea cds will never die enuff said =)

  • I also love looking at all the CD's I own. I really enjoy driving to the shop then driving home on the highway listening to the CD i have bought. I hope they stay in stores for a couple of years. Ive had faults with my ipod that are annoying and frustrating which is another reason I still buy CD's

  • I would be fine with them leaving, but they should be replaced usb's in the stores with the music on them.. but id much rather CD's lol

  • bring aback vynil

  • No, CDs should never go away...

  • yess i feel the exact same way as you do about CDs. i just don't feel as excited buying an album on itunes

  • Whenever I actually buy music (sorry to the anti pirate people) I go for vinyl. Its about the same price as cds and its A LOT cooler plus comes with a download card. Cause all you do is rip the cd to itunes and shelf it anyway, so might as well shelf the vinyl instead.

  • I like to go buy CDs when I can. Like you said, the physical collection of all that awesome music is something worth showing off.

  • love enuff z nuff

  • im with you man i love cds. i love looking at my collection too. i hope they dont go away cause few things are as rewarding as getting pumped for an album then the day it is released going to the record store to buy it

  • Mylo xyloto was an alright name i thought, original anyway.

  • The majority of Coldplays sales were online because the buyers were too embarassed to be seen buying that shit in public.

  • @hungrysparrow hm you look so cool for disliking coldplay!
