  • I can't believe it. This is what Youtube was meant for...It worked. My wash was in the basin full of water for a week....just stick a pencil in the doorswitch and hold it shut with the lid and PRESTO....

  • OMG. what a Godsend. I was going nuts man

  • I just wanted to say thanks for your video. I just replaced the lid switch on my machine. Once I got the housing off like you said the rest was a piece of cake.

  • cont...duck tape to tape it to the open position. I saw someone's note about a zip tie - I rigged a zip tie on each end of switch to keep it in the open position for a quick fix - put it all back together and now it's working. I'll get the part later but needed the water to drain before everything soured. Thanks again for your extremely helpful video. Lots of people are asking about your getting a PayPal account - that's probably very easy - you should do it ... today! Big Smiles!

  • Thank you so much for your video - have never repaired an appliance and was able to! I spoke to a friend who said instead of replacing the switch, they used

  • thank you so much.

  • I know a ton of other people have said thank you, but seriously, thank you. My husband is using a zip tie to fix the switch as I type.

  • Thanks for the video. With your guidance I located the switch in my Whirlpool washer. Just like you said it was the lid switch. Made a temp fix using a zip-tie and got the machine to drain. Wife was REAL happy!

  • Thanks for the video. With your guidance I located my

  • Just saved us a ton! thank you so much...I second the earlier comment...do you have a paypal account I can drop a little bit in??

  • Dude! You're my hero! Thanks for this video. I would have wasted a lot of time and money trying to diagnose this on my own.

  • I thank you so much for this video, I am a single mom of 4 and am really hitting depression hard, especially when my washer quit on me. Thank you thank you I was able to do this myself!!

  • My washer quit on the weekend. I Googled the problem and ordered a switch off Amazon for $8. It was here in a few days and I found this video. My washer is now working perfectly. I am with Wendy (persayest). You need a website with a PayPal feature to accept "tips" for your help. Thank you so much!

  • I bought a replacement switch off Amazon for $8 and used this video to walk me through. You saved us a lot of money! Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Same thing happened to me today... I find this video, but instead of ordering a new one, I used a Hurricane tie (zip strap) and tightened up the bottom half to the top half, my cost... ZERO!! Thanks so much for this video!

  • Well yesterday (12-27-11) my washer wouldn't drain or spin. I thought possibly it was either a bad drain value solenoid or a relay or something along those lines. Then I found this video!!!! In 10 minutes I had the cover off and sure enough the lid switch was broken. Got a new on order. I wonder how much a repair call would have been? Thanks for the vid!

  • Excellent video! After watching this video, I fixed my dryer in a jiffy! :-)

  • anybody knows the part number of lid switch, i wanna order it... thanks

  • @shahraam456 Well, I took my Kenmore washer apart, and my lid switch by a company called FSP, is part # 3949238. But, you should look up your part for your washer to make sure it's the same.

  • @pentiuman , thanks alot.

  • Very helpful video thank you.

  • Thank you SO much!!!! I was getting ready to cry and spend lots of money...Thank you!

  • Great video. Mine just gave the ghost.

I have a video on the agitatior dog replacement that you could send people to if you need.

    Thanks for this again!

  • I won"t be able to fix it, but at least I know what is wrong and thanks to your video I was able to get the water out of the machine.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Excellent video. I saw just enough to make the repairs with ease and our local Sears parts store had the lid switch on-hand. Saved me from buying a new EPA-tained machine that probably wouldn't have worked as well as this old machine. Thanks much!

  • would be a great video if you showed us MORE than 50% of the fix.

  • great video... thank you!

... I'm just having a hard time finding the parts of my model... but I did a test run and everything seemed to go ok =)

  • thank you so much. as we speak I have a pen cap wedged, just like you said so I could finish the laundry load that has been sitting in the washing machine all day! Of course hubby is out of town 4 more days and with 3 young children I rarely ever skip one day of doing laundry! simple and to the point, even I could understand!!!! I was 5 minutes away from calling in the repair man, now I can wait and my fixer upper hubby can do the job, THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!!

  • great lesson/reminder in always checking the stupidly simple stuff first.

...ugh now i have to go put my washer back together...

  • Thank you VERY much! this solved our problem!

  • Excellent video. Really appreciated it. Clear, precise and useful. Saved us lots of anguish.

    Thanks so much

  • Thank you for the video.. Very helpful in troubleshooting the problem.

  • You're so wonderful!! My boyfriend has to go on a week long trip tomorrow and we were doing laundry for him today but it wouldn't drain or spin. He was so upset, I went to google and got a link to this video as well as some discussion forums. You helped us a lot. I taped the lid switch box together for a temporary fix and it drained right after we plugged it in. THANK YOU!! I also used Youtube and google to convert a three prong dryer to a four prong. Internet = AMAZING!! Again, THANKS!!

  • thank you very much for this video it was very helpful...

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to post this and directing us to actually repairing the switch. You saved me from buying a new washer. All I know is this piece fell off/out from under the lid. I didn't know the name or where it came from, let alone fix it. I Googled my Kenmore and your video popped up and now I'm replacing the 'Lid switch" at Sears for $36.92! You and everyone like you, are Wonderful!!!

  • You saved me more than $100. Very nice video, made it easy. Right now I have it clamped together with model glue while I wait for the part to be deliver. Thanks so much! Bailing the darned thing so I could move it out of the wall niche was the hardest part. No man needed!

  • Thanks rjskoko, excellent video. This gave me the exact answer to my problem without costing me two children and a goat. The only issue I had was putting the upper assembly back on. I loved that you kept it short n simple and w/o this video i'd still be lookin at the disapointment on my wife's face. Thanks

  • This video rocked!!! I used it to fix our washer's draining problem only rather than buying a new switch we just rubberbanded the old one down so the washer thinks it's always closed... Hopefully that'll work for a while :)

  • it helped and saved money thanks for the video but i need to order the switch, in the meantime i jus thold down the switch manually to drain the water out

  • Thanks for posting! Sears wanted lots of money for a service call and the part on their website was expensive. Found the part on amazon.com for around $10. Took me only 10 minutes to replace based on this video and the RepairClinic video. My wife thinks I'm a genius :)

  • thanks man big help. justed moved into a new house that came with this washer and we did are first load of laundry and nothing happen. this help me fix the issue.

  • Mahalo for postin this...you saved me tons. That was EXACTLY what was wrong...just taped it together for now....will probably have to go to the parts store eventally.

  • I initally replaced the water pump, two days later the switch broke... this video (and the another I used to replace the water pump) made repairing my washer super easy! This took me literally 5 minutes to replace/repair and even after both repairs I still only spent 75 bucks for parts (including shipping!) Thanks guys... you're video makes a single mom a little less broke and a whole lot of happy! ;-)

  • Great video, thanks! Saved me $120 service call.

  • My Kenmore suddenly stopped spinning today, water filled/agitated but didnt spin/rinse. I tried holding putting a pencil in the lid switch, it didn't budge. I called a couple of repair guys they estimated $90-$200. After that quote I decided youtube this. I was pleased to find your video, just watching the first minute of you using a screw driver motivated me to imitate you step by step, believe it or not the screwdriver WORKED! (not pencil)! Not a permanent fix but HELPFUL for now! THANKS!

  • Thank you, RJS. I'd just left a comment on another video complaining that the guy didn't tell us how to take of the lid!

  • This was perfect THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent job. Thank you.

  • As I review this post, I see that there is an -excellent- video by RepairClinic on this topic covering the switch replacement. Search for RepairClinic and washing machine lid switch.

  • @rjskoko I just want to thank you soooo much. You have no idea how much you helped out a single parent. I went home, took the washer apart, found the lid switch, detached it and determined that it was just falling apart in the areas where it looked like it was glued together at the factory. Nothing was broken, so I clamped it together, until I can get a really strong glue to reglue it and I put it all back together and viola, it worked. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • I'm happy to hear that some folks could benefit from my quick video.

I actually found bits and pieces of this information in other posts and videos, but I didn't find any videos about opening the console, so I posted a quick one.

--Just help someone else fix these otherwise fine washers.--

  • Thank you for creating this video. I was able to take my washer apart, fix the lid switch (my local appliance stores did not have it on hand) and put it back together quickly. Do you have a PayPal account I can drop a few bucks in? You saved me a ton of money from not having to take 1/2 a day off work to pay a guy to come out and fix this. Thanks again, Wendy

  • @persayest I agree. He saved me a lot of cash and problems! I have no repair experience but was able to fix my machine with this.

  • Fantastic, rjskoko -- got my agitate-no-spin-no-noise problem fixed with only this video as a guide, it was the switch (probably dropped the lid from too high a height once to often). Clear and concise, great job. ;)
