ALL TIME FAVORITE JOHNNY BOY TUNES DAM WHAT A GREAT SONG, AND I KNOW BETTER ! Took me a week of playing it non stop til me mum hide the album from me. I had to buy another one just to mess with her head. Sadly learned it on an ole SEARS Silver Tone LOVE and TORTURE.

Although I played bass in a band during the Beatles era and my bass playing style was often compared to McCartney's, I always associated more with John Lennon during their run and after their demise. Probably his writing and singing style. And I still do. I hardly play bass anymore, mostly just acoustic guitar. Lennon's music lives on.
This song has hidden messages in it. To find out what they are, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read the section about The Beatles. Show this to every Beatles fan you know.
the ending is "Can you take me back" which was going to be a original song by itself, but they decided just to add a small portion of it to the end of this song.
One of my favorite Ringo drumming moments, from 0:42 to 0:58. I kind of wished he had used that drum pattern more throughout the song. He uses it in the outro to Sexy Sadie. It's an unusual way of playing the hi-hat that wasn't heard much at that time. Someone like Bernard Purdie might have done that, but slightly different.
i betcha a dollar a donut... the album representation here.. they'd make it sound like some big ol' time rock and roll band! (sorry, many remarks made back in the 50's in the usa going "what? where's the orchestra? or the rest of the band? then hear the sighs bridging.. *gee, these producers are dumbasses*) it was even said of elvis' group back then... :D ah 4 to 3 pieces or less days.
@frazypeeps - Yep...a classic..the anthology version of 'Cry Baby Cry' is also worth checking out...stunning version! While you're at it check out my new vids for '...Me And My Monkey' and 'Flying'.
This is a beautiful and frightening song. It always sounds like John is writing about ghosts that inhabit some ancient British Manor where they died, including a baby. The "Can You Take Me Back" part even sounds like a creepy coda, as if one of the ghosts is wanting to return to our world. Play this song in the dark
This is the first time I've heard this song...shame on me!!! I can't believe I've never heard such an excellent Beatles song...I only heard the end on Beatles LOVe.
among the best songs on the white album, and so underrated!

The ending could have replaced "Long Long Long" and the album would have sold so much better. Just saying. ;)

Why is this song so underrated?I think people simply do not know it. They should.

At their peak, pure art and yet still a pop song, no wonder the Beatles and Lennon especially were so respected and the music timeless.
