he looks just like my jasper. a friend was house sitting and a door to door salesmen knocked on the door an when he opened the door my jasper flew away. it still upsets me so much. i kept almost every feather that has fallen off him since i got him and it reminds me of him so much. i live in south florida and there are some cockatiels that live in the wild from either being let go or escaping. so i hope he is doing fine. i love you jasper and i will leave that millet on the porch every day for u
Ive got an idea! Why don't you guys clip your birds wings? It's simple, easy, free, and painless if you do it right. And that's 4 birds to many to be letting free. That's just cruel. If your birds fly out the window, they could be stuck out there for days in the cold, or heat, being terrified of everything and starving. Shame on you! >:L
The only one i feal sorry for when their bird flys away is the bird, if someone's going to have a bird they should train it to return on command, if they can't teach their bird that then they need to clip the lift feathers, yeah yeah, i know, that's terrible, how can i do that, what's better, your bird not be able to fly like it should or starve or be eaten because you like to watch it fly in circles round the living room..
@johnevon1 if u clip the wings will they grow again? and i was given a cockatiel by my neighbour about 4weeks ago and i don't think of clipping his wings. These birds were born to fly around freely it's not right to take that freedom of them to fly in the bedroom or living room. My cockatiel hardly flys around the room so no point in clipping him.
@dogus194 Yes, they grow back, i'm not a fan of clipping i'm just saying, if a person can't train their bird to return on command they either shouldn't have a bird or need to clip the wings, nothing personl Dogus194 but how can you say it's not right to take their freedom, unless you live in a rainforest and have no windows?
@johnevon1 well yeh if you live in a rainforest with no windows then i guess u can clip it if u don't want it to fly out. But if you live in a house for example me i let my bird out all the time and the door/window is closed but he never flys he just sits by the big mirror cleaning his self, singing to his reflection and falling asleep. And about the clipping i was told the wings never grow :/ I wouldn't know how to train him to come back to my hand as i had him for 4weeks. can i add you?
i found my bird as well. it was perched on a tree outside my house. it has a tag on its leg, but i havent bothered to check the birth year yet after all these years. one time i stupidly took her outside for some fresh air and she took off. she flew so high up, i had no idea how i was going to get her. i ran back in to the house to get the car keys, but when i came back out my birdy was hanging out in the yard waiting for me (or so i like to think) :)
i have got a cockatiel just like that. we always did let it free in the cottage, but when we came back to home, he think that he can be free over there... but every house is so similiar. it was confused.. next day we heard from a old man thet he saw a bird in one beach, we go there...my bird...was brutally killed. the neck was wide open .. and I knew that it was my bird, because its leg was broken twice, and in one legs toe. theres no nail at all :/
My goodness, what a long name! LOL. I sometimes miss having cockatiel. I had one that also did a wolf whistle, said "pretty bird" and would sing half the theme from "The Andy Griffith Show" :)
LMAO and here I thought MY cockatiel Beausse MiJack von Støjberg (last name meaning Noisy-Hill) had a looooooooooooong and kindda crazy name...can't stop laughing...
All that wolf-whistling is gonna get that boid in trouble one day. Some ladybird's gonna take offence at that and scratch him one good, right across the eye. Bam!
o what a sweetie! Cockateils have such fun personalities. I've always imagined my birds' ad in the singles column: Good looking & charming. Loud, demanding & dirty. Btw I'm not old, just moulting. Call me.
I had a cockatiel just like this that flew out the window and we tried so hard to catch him but he would fly from tree to tree, he was so startled ... poor fella. This was years ago in Concord, Ca :( he flew pretty far and the next few days we still heard him, then he stopped. We thought a cat caught him :(
@BrazilianGoddess91 I've also had a cockatiel escape, it's really awful, and it's so cold in the UK if they dont get caught by cats, mobbed by other birds, or starve, they more then likely freeze :( Although we managed to catch Elvis, there has been another 4 escaped cockatiels we've seen in our garden since - they've always only hung around for a few hours though before moving on.
My sisters looks just like that as well. He had escaped from someone and one day while i was on break at work he tried crash landing on my sister. We put up found signs and such but noone ever claimed him. He's now family I dont know what my dog would do with out him they're best friends.
@Bexby same here my cockatiel got out of the cage twice whie it was outside but luckily the first time it attracted my moms flowers so it didnt fly and i was able to lure it bac in its cage...the second time i came home super late and no brought my bird in so i went to catch finding it out of the cage but i guess it was too dark and it probably felt lost so it stayed in on a nearby shelf and i was able to put it back in its cage
@BrazilianGoddess91 I know how terrible that can be :(. A few years ago I lost my 2 tiels and 3 budgies at the same time. Their cages somehow got knocked off the outside table and they flew away. 2 of them hung around for a few days but then left. I now have 2 different tiels and they're lovely. Nadia and Booboo.(:
@BrazilianGoddess91 Oh my gosh i live in Concord, CA too and years ago we found a cockatiel on our front lawn and decided to take him in for a while and try to find the owner... we put up signs around our neighborhood but no one got back to us... then one day he flew away from us too and we heard him singing for a while in a house down the street... do u think i may have found the same bird you had?
@BrazilianGoddess91 I had the same thing happen to my cockatiel but a hose was near by and we sprayed him down from the tree. I was so relieved but shocked.
@BrazilianGoddess91 We;ve lost a few birds too. D'= I cried. Anyway we lost one bright blue parakeet in New York. A woman found and caught a less bright, blue parakeet close to us. And they do get less bright when the molt. It was kinda amazing. We also lost a green I think one and my mom overheard a man in the pet store who lived like twenty minutes from us asking all about what he should get to keep a parakeet he found, near frozen is his neighborhood. Described him JUST like my bird.
@Byebubble He was so happy though, and seemed REALLY excited to have a new bird, my mom figured he must be a very good home, and couldn't bear to tell him he was ours.
@BrazilianGoddess91 Just an hour ago my bird flew out the window and i spent a lot of time in the front looking for her i was crying like an idiot and everyone was looking at me i miss her so much even though it was 2 hours ago i just want her back but i know she will never come home. Now i just have my male cockatiel
@BritMJFanAlways Did you ever find your bird that escaped? One way that I got a parakeet back once was to bring his cage outside with the other bird in it. He started chirping for the escaped one, and he flew back to his cage. I don't imagine this trick would always work, but it's good to know should it ever happen to someone else.
@xbo0oyx Lol, how can a bird look too old? We caught him from our garden, so we don't know how old he is - he could be in his 20s for all we know. And this video was taken years ago, and he's still going, happy and healthy.
@Bexby oooh ok lol i was going to say that would be sad for the owner who lost him thinking he was probably dead or something..well im glad you found him.bless the little guy he seems so sweet.i have 2 cockatiels myself and i love 'em like they're my kid
That happened to my dad too! He was playing tennis and this bird kept swooping down and hitting him on the head! Luckily we've had cockatiels before so my dad talked to the bird and then carried him home. The poor little guy was just scared and hungry! We've had him for many years now! I love him to death! He can say "pretty bird" and he likes to explore. Cockatiels are the greatest!

@Bexby i miss my bird. I hope he is safe in someone elses house just like elvis is :D In fact, in my heart Im sure he is *sheds a little tear* But my new Tiel ghost loves me and loves listening to Elvis and the other youtube birds prattle away :D
@Bexby we caught 1 2 we put adds in the paper but nothing came up i <3 my cockatiel he is the nicest bird in the world. i feel bad for his old owner but he luvs us now !
He is gorgeous. Normally when tiels sing it is really loud and piercing, but he is so quiet, such a melancholy tone too. Makes me sad. My cockatiel doesnt sing at all, which is a good thing, right?
Hmm, My Cockatiel was known as Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser third
@ExplosiveDonuts No, I don't think so - I think they live in large family groups, so they're definately no solitary. I'm not sure how they would react to a stranger cockatield though. Like most animals, I'd assume they'd just chase the stranger away...
They live in flocks of hundreds. But just like people, not every couple gets along. Plus, companion birds typically pick one person who will be it's chosen person or "mate". So when this new cockatiel enters, they could develop jealousy.
My bird (it's not actually my bird. It's lived for about 20 years and I'm not even that old yet o.o and it's a cockatiel, too) does the same thing at 0:47 and only does it towards the girls and he is a male lol. So every time I pass him by after taking a shower with a towel on he always does that lol. His name is Rolly :P
Talented whistler you have there. I've had my cockatiel for less than 2 months, but he/she only makes a shrieking whistle in the morning when I come into the room, which is his "I miss you Daddy, get me outa this cage!" call. Haven't seen much musical tendencies yet, but he's barely five months old.
@kasach6511 I know it's best to have mutiple cockatiels, but he did used to have a friend, and they kept on fighting - the second one had to be rehomed, and he's actually a lot happier now.
@mermagica192117 It must be my camera, or the angle of the camera, but I promise you, his eye is fine - this video is 3 years old, and he's still with us, and in perfect health ;)
haha love the names! we call our pets a zillion names too. our cockatiel pepper gets called conny, dawnly-anne, corinthian crack, corianthi aha! i love your bird he is so clever and cute :)
Ahh he is a real sweetie! We've just adopted a adult cockatiel had him a few weeks but he's extremely frighted and nervous, hope he becomes as friendly as yours. do you have any tips? :)
He's really not as friendly as he looks lol - he's not tame at all haha! He's ok when he's in the cage, but when he comes out, he gets really scared. It's probably best to slowly start poking some food through the bars of the cage until he is confident to come over and take it. Other then that, just give him time :D
@xProjectPoniesx Just spend a lot of time with them, the way I tamed my bird was by putting his cage in my room when I was doing homework or something and opening up all the roof and doors and leaving food outside the cage so he'd eventually come out. Mind you I got him already half tame, just took the warming up to me bit.
Basically just spend a lot of time with your bird, talk to them/whistle to them and stuff, and once your able to pat them then pat them all the time makes them really calm.
@xProjectPoniesx a great site to check out is (I dont think its letting me post the actual address, so just type it out like a normal online address) "birdsnways, com" and then select "tiel talk forum"..
@xProjectPoniesx ...cont'd --Its a really cool place to chat about your 'tiel and ask any questions you have..The ppl there are very smart are really nice, and will give you awesome advice..and its an all over nice place to be :)
I have no idea what he does there but it sounds like he's laughing or something.
God I wish I had a pet like this again, I used to have a whole bunch of them but me being young and just entering puberty lost interest in the little critters. A few months later I came back from school and walked straight up to where the cage used to be and was about to greet my friends when I, naturally, found out they weren't there anymore. Sad. :(
I was growing up, just got into a new school and a whole new world of responsibility opened up to me at that time. I had so many others things to do all of a sudden and the bird wasn't on the mainstage anymore.
EEEEH i know how you feel! I only have one... but he can take down a dog... its bad, my cat would eat my bird if i ever had one... but i lovee garfield! =D.....
omg that name! XD

He is gorgeous. Normally when tiels sing it is really loud and piercing, but he is so quiet, such a melancholy tone too. Makes me sad. My cockatiel doesnt sing at all, which is a good thing, right?

I read his full name and you had me at Frank N. Furter. Could you teach him how to sing "Sweet Transvestite?"
9DAYSgirl 1 year ago
@ExplosiveDonuts No, I don't think so - I think they live in large family groups, so they're definately no solitary. I'm not sure how they would react to a stranger cockatield though. Like most animals, I'd assume they'd just chase the stranger away...
Bexby 1 year ago
@Bexby

Haven't seen much musical tendencies yet, but he's barely five months old.

kasach6511 1 year ago
@kasach6511 I know it's best to have mutiple cockatiels, but he did used to have a friend, and they kept on fighting - the second one had to be rehomed, and he's actually a lot happier now.

Ahh he is a real sweetie! We've just adopted a adult cockatiel had him a few weeks but he's extremely frighted and nervous, hope he becomes as friendly as yours. do you have any tips? :)
xProjectPoniesx 1 year ago
He's really not as friendly as he looks lol - he's not tame at all haha! He's ok when he's in the cage, but when he comes out, he gets really scared. It's probably best to slowly start poking some food through the bars of the cage until he is confident to come over and take it. Other then that, just give him time :D
Bexby 1 year ago
@xProjectPoniesx feed the bird *w* they get attatched to food O_o
kazya23 1 year ago
@xProjectPoniesx Just spend a lot of time with them, the way I tamed my bird was by putting his cage in my room when I was doing homework or something and opening up all the roof and doors and leaving food outside the cage so he'd eventually come out. Mind you I got him already half tame, just took the warming up to me bit.
Basically just spend a lot of time with your bird, talk to them/whistle to them and stuff, and once your able to pat them then pat them all the time makes them really calm.
KidsWithGuns1992 1 year ago
@xProjectPoniesx a great site to check out is (I dont think its letting me post the actual address, so just type it out like a normal online address) "birdsnways, com" and then select "tiel talk forum"..

Sad. :(
One day I'll pick one up again!
Stonezorz 2 years ago
@Stonezorz
But why did you lose interest?
F0nkyNinja 2 years ago
I was growing up, just got into a new school and a whole new world of responsibility opened up to me at that time. I had so many others things to do all of a sudden and the bird wasn't on the mainstage anymore.
Simply sad. :(
