qui aveva la voce totalmente aperta ed era un canto appesantito, devo di che altri tenori a pari eta' cantavano molto meglio....del monaco era un grande ed insuperabile da giovane , a mio avviso dopo il 62, 1963 i suoni incominciavano ad essere tanto aperti, troppo, e la voce se da un lato robusta dall'altro macchinosa, pesante.

yes, bocelli is a better "pop singer" ill give you that...I have heard his pieta signore..just 2 differnt voices...but del monaco is a RARE dramatic tenor while bocelli would never be put in the same league in terms of greatness of voice and passion---although like i said he does have that unique POP "operetta" voice that has it's qualities

well Del Monaco is one of his idols and Bocelli isnt a Dramatic tenor so u cant compere both voices r great. If Bocelli sounds like an angel singing this, as you put it, it is because he has a very weak and fragile voice. He can only dream of having a strong tenor voice like that of del Monaco.

In an opera house you could not listen to Bocelli beyond the first row (ergo he doesn't sing without his mic), whereas operatic voices like that of del Monaco are made to fill the house with his voice!!

Please don't compare del Monaco with that cross over pussy called Bocelli.

couple reasons why most people know about Bocelli and few know about del Monaco:

The first and most logic, Bocelli lives in the same time as you (idiot!) and Del Monaco died in 1982

Second, most people dont know shit about music. Bocelli is a mass media product performing commercial music sold to the masses. Del Monaco was an opera singer who sang art music, and art music is generally understood and appreciated only by educated people -not by the the large ignorant masses where you belong

Opera is for everyone in the sense that opera theatres are open to anyone who pays the ticket. Now, you won't understand it and you probably won't enjoy it much unless you prepare yourself before the performance.
