How to get potassium nitrate from plants

This is most likely not potassium nitrate. If it is, it looks so heavily contaminated with organics that it may well be useless for all KNO3-related applications. I would suggest that you find another way to get the nitrate. On a related note, if you burn those plants and they're dry, and place the ashes in boiling hot water, and filter and boil the solution down, you get very pure potassium carbonate. This may be what they are referring to.

Repeat this enough and you will start to see salt collecting at the bottom. Another indicator is the boiling begins to deminish as the salt level increases. Eventually all you'll see is steam with no boiloing at all. Take the pot off heat and watch the salt start crystalizing and falling to the bottom of the pot. Bingo potassium nitrate! Yields vary animal to animal and the manure exposure to rain and the like. A chicken coup may be your best bet.

The process you are missing its leeching,filtering and boiling batches to consentrate it. Start looking for abandoned chicken coups,stalls or just collect old cow or horse droppings. The trick here is to extract as much from the old dropping with as little water as can be used. After you've tapped the crap and strained it you'll want to filter it,you want nothing in it but yellow pee looking water. Then you need to boil this down,use a gallon pot,add a gallon and boil to half then add more.

@HomoSapien2012 Google or Wik the term "nitre bed" I believe this is the same process you're referring to. However, it takes a long time and once you read about it you probably won't want to attempt it unless you have a really big yard.

If you need KNO3 and it's not the process of making it you're interested in, there are plenty of sellers on ebay.

Well it is very hard to make information illegal and it is impossible to make thoughts illegal so I'm sure you'll find some solution out there with the right research and safety (from the law and from physical harm). Might I suggest looking into producing Hydrogen and Oxygen through electrolysis and filling milk jugs. It's loud as hell, not nearly as damaging as the noise it makes, and cheap accessible materials.

This method does not work, for starters the plants barely have more than 2% nitrate and therefore would require tons of plant matter to make a few grams of nitrate, also there is chlorophyll and sugars in the water that need to be separated.

Just buy some on ebay its ALOT cheaper than going through any type of extraction method.

I'm sorry to say that it won't work. Potassium makes up 2-3% of most plants' dry weight, nitrogen 3-4%. Living plants are at least 50% water, so potassium levels are very low. Moreover, the potassium and nitrogen will be in lots of forms, not just KNO3, so purity will be really poor. Don't waste your time. If you want to try making it, you could try the old recipies based on manure.
