With wood framing yes. You CAN over nail a connection and make it LESS structurally sound. I've been framing/working in construction for 20+ years. When you put too many connectors in ANY joint you compromise its' integrity. Wood is a fibrous material. Nuff said.
i was recently given a red tag on my project because the shear wall panels were not staggered. do the pannels have to be staggered on a shear wall 9' w x16' in hight?

@chaton602 You would need to ask that question to your structrual engineer, but in most cases the answer is yes.
