  • Really nice!

  • Who is the performer of this clip?

  • No one but and idiot would call Handel`s counterpoint bad, in fact it it as great as Bach`s but different. He was much freer in his application.

  • @shnimmuc I love Both, Handel is way much easier than Bach. Fugues like the BWV 911 or the collection that goes from BWV 944 to BWV 948. Is the hardest counterpoint i ever heard in my life. Haendel never compose something like that.

  • I will agree and disagree. But definitely more agree than disagree. Bach does have some extremely beautiful fugues but his are so very mathematical and "clean" if that is the word to use. Handel has more melodic themes and I find that the overall compositions are more free flowing than the tightness of the Bach ones. D. Scarlatti has 5 fugues in the 555+ Sonatas. These themes all seem more like something that Bach would write, but the overall composition has a more Handelian feel to it.

  • I LOVE this fugue SO much. I think it is one of Handel's best fugues. Whoever said Handel's counterpoint was horrible should be shot with a watermelon!

  • And this is definitely more melodious than Bach's fugues.

  • @baroquegeek Handel's fugues are superb, in my opinion better than Bach, who showed great technique but less ability to amaze people... This is great but my favourites are the fugue from HWV 433 and the last allegro from HWV 427 if you do not know them I advise you the interpretation on the grand piano by Keith Jarrett he makes sound Handel like Mozart or Beethoven

  • @alb84guitar Know it? I own the CD! lol I love the Bach fugues too. I agree with shnimmuc's comment. Handel's and Scarlatti's fugues are not as dense as Bach's. But I love Baroque music so bring on all the fugues! :-)

  • @baroquegeek You may have just made my day.

  • @baroquegeek Was probably one of those overstudied academy pukes who thought music is about writing mathematical furmulae. /wretch

  • I haven't heard a good fugue in a while, and this is a really nice one.

  • it's one

  • very nice.

I am learning a transcription of this piece by Ponce (a Mexican composer)

  • @applepiano You must be talking about the "prelude and fugue on a theme by Handel". It's a fantastic piece!

  • Incredible! Is it just one instrument, or many? Cause it sure sounds like more than one :D
