i just wrap it in cloth then use mole grips :O

I use rubber tipped pliers, which won't scratch the surface of the shock shaft. Hobbico makes the pliers I use. :)

also you could probably use a large elastic band (the kind that comes with lobsters) instead of the tape, no cleanup necessary afterwards
