I don't think I'd ever go over to see the battlefields. I've been to France to all of the graveyards, with my grandpa on my mom's side, but my grandpa on my dad's side fought in Vietnam, and after this I don't think I'd ever go to Vietnam, no way.

This is one of the darker docs I have ever seen.My uncle was a Vietnam Vet,and while he said he was always afraid over there,he also did 4 tours,he was honest with me and told me that he also really loved it,all of it,the killing,the women,the drugs.He had a very hard time adjusting when it was over and said that if the war would have continued he would have kept going back,endlessly.

@panzercat39 I have a similar story. Mine (uncle) got hooked on heroin on his first tour and volentered for three more. He said the heroin he could get in Nam was dirt cheap & almost pure. My dad has letters where he says "the junkies in the states would OD."

He was a severe alchoholic after the war and never really got readjusted. He killed himself in 1990. The depression was too much. I come from a military family with countless vets and many sacrifices, but his is the hardest to deal with.

This reminds me of the old Vietnamese guy I met in a bar in Toronto. We were both fucking wasted and I was on morphine, he was on heroin. We started talkin' about our times in the army. He was in the Viet Cong from age 16-17. At 17 he had his arm hit with a bunch of shrapnel from a U.S airstrike. When I met him had a lil stump protruding from his shoulder. Rest of it amputated. I had nothing to come against that lol.We still poked fun at eachother. 2 generations of war. But we're still brothers.

In SADF we avoided Civilian Casualties as much as possible, we didn't go around killing them for 'Body Count'. If they were killed, they were living inside Terr camps as shields and died from Artillery shells. Nor me or my guys even thought of killing Women and Children. During my Recce operations I would sit on the perimeter of the Terr base watching them play, you realise they human and have family. If most americans knew that vietnam had been fighting off China for over a thousand years and defeated France relatively quickly after they got their foothold in the 19th century, Americans would never support it.
