A lot of people were dying because of this Tsunami at the time they were making their God comments. Those words to God were not only for their own protection but obviously prayers for the protection of others, as well. And the human fear of dying is not linked to some sort of life's preciousness, it is a universal trait of all lifeforms, and it's called the survival instinct. Dad's cousin lost his wife and two kids to this tsunami. Another cousin lost his brother. As of yet, there's no news about where Dad's youngest sister is. The Samoan community is small enough that everyone with any family there is connected in some way.
Bottom line: there are real people here whose families have been touched by this terrible calamity and all this debating, regardless of which side of the fence you might stand on, is simply callous in the extreme.
