This is enjoyable and a treat...however since tyher eis so few versions of Elton singing this on professional video..i wish Elton had done this solo...
I'm kinda disappointed in Sting right now. I mean I understand that one may be a little more focused on what they're doing while recording than when they're performing, but he looked like he didn't want to be there at all. The Two Rooms version was freakin awesome with the stand up bass and keys but this was emotionless poop. Still a good song though, and I'll probably never be as successful as either of those two fine musicians haha
Beautiful. Each of them are one of my favorite artists. Wonderful to see them together singing a tune from one of my all-time favorite albums, Tumbleweed Connection.
This is like a Family Guy sketch where they're exaggerating the superfluous ridiculousness of Sting's voice- except it's real. Wow. What a disgrace.
Also the drums make it too heavy, though I'll put that more down to preference. The lyric is lonesome and hopeless, not spirited or keen. And there's no irony in upping the melody, like in 'I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself.'
Sounds like they've also roped in Kenny G to do this one. Not a good version of the song at all. A good song, great in fact, but nothing good added to it here.
Elton isn't the typical screaming solo pianist, His real genius was in the way he put notes together to create chord combinations (many arpeggiated). He developed a sound that was uniquely his and you could always recognize an Elton John song even when he wasn't singing. Well sung by Sting, too.
I had owned Tumbleweed Connection for 20 years but didn't think this was such a great song until Sting covered it. Even when I go back to Elton's version, I still think Sting owns the song LOL.
Yes, the original is still the best (hey, Elton's band had a little to do with THAT) but I think it's really cool that a superstar like Sting would say this is one of his favorites, too. How many superstars ever admit that in public ?? I'll answer that. NONE.

I agree with Elton, my favourite songs of his are not his hits, with a couple of exceptions. And I like most of his hits.

Two Rooms version is gorgeous but this is pretty good too! Sting can sing anything but this song's almost like a Sting song it suits him so much!

I like the original and the version from Two Rooms, but that sax in the background throws a wrench in the works for me.

AWESOME! SUPERB SONG!
Eltons' Americana take on TC rules however.........much more emotive range than Sting.

It's brilliant to hear the original arrangement here! I wasn't expecting that! I thought it'd just be the piano!
