I'll confess that even though a college student at Nanzan in Nagoya, I liked to come home from classes, brew a pot of tea with a few cookies, and watch this show. Thought for sure it was purely a Japanese creation; now I find out it was dubbed.
Wow, I didn't even know Terrahawks was shown in Japan, let alone that the credits were re-edited for the audience. Good find! Thanks for sharing.
I have long wondered though why the series has never been rebroadcast on British TV since the early/mid 80s and yet all of Anderson's other work appear every so often.
@Dynaman21 I see, thanks for sharing that info. Interesting - do you know why he disowned it or can you give me a link to more details please? To me, Terrahawks never came across as inferior to his other work so I wonder why he felt that way.
@Dynaman21 Why didn't he like it?? I always thought Terrahawks was quite funny and enjoyable. I preffered it to Stingray and all that, and liked just as much as Thunderbirds.I like Star Fleet better though but I think Terrahawks deserves a lot more credit. A LOT more credit.
was the animation for the japanese version a cartoon series or used for the intro for the original puppet series , i know there was thunderbirds 2010 or thunderbirds but manga , was it okayed by gerry anderson
You know, if we got a Crusher Joe esque anime like the OP titles suggested, it probably would have been freaking awesome and had less taping songs off the radio.
WOW! That is Cool, dya think studio Nue did those animated sequences. I grew up with the us version but those anime sequences. Feeling like crusher joe or macross.
@MarchMuffins: Studio Nue, Sunrise studio, or Madhouse (it was found in 1978) could have done the animation. Who knows?? But it could be either Studio Nue, or Sunrise (I have seen Sunrise older anime, and they could be capable of doing this anime sequence).
@perfume1965: You might want to tell that to the American and European countries that edited anime. What Japan did to Terrahawks is very much like how US did to anime long time ago.

I'm curious what the accents were on the others as Hiro always spoke in what I've learn to be "Engwish"

Japanese isn't a very romantic spoken language. It's sounds harsh.

The opening with the crazy yelling Japanese guy is hilarious!!!
-Also, I didn't realize they actually went to the trouble of doing their own anime title versions; cool!!! :)

@JayArgonaut Gerry disowned Terrahawks and tries to pretend it never happened. That's probably why.

They should have used that jazzy song with the noughts and crosses for the us instead of "living in the 24th century"

I LOVE this version! It's loads more abstract + surreal. Music is a little cheesey tho...

Terrahawks was air on NHK? They suppose to be on FUJI TV. And that's the home of X-Bomber

Its a Japanese thing, I mean look at the end credits for Dominion Tank Police for example
weldonwin 2 years ago
The Japanese should just leave things as they are.
I don't mean to be offensive but there was no need to change that in Terrahawks.
It's fine the way it is.

I agree it's just not the same as the original - however the singing is not too bad

Big time. Thunderbirds was bigger in Japan than it was in America, the original market it was aimed at to sell overseas.

It was only the title sequences that were made as Anime, for the Japanese syndication package of the show.
MrJim 3 years ago
(disappointed moan) So you mean there's no anime version of terrahawks?
Raptormon132 3 years ago
No, sorry! Mind you, would it have been better than Thunderbirds 2086?

Anything is better than Thunderbirds 2086!!!

@MrJim The live action American Thunderbirds movie with real people would have been better than Thunderbirds 2086.
