Hi, I am looking for photos of Matthew during the period of 1977-1985 for heritage documentaries on our singapore cowboy. Would appreciate your help. Thanks, do email me: ok45sg@gmail.com
Matthew, I heard you live in a watering hole at the Orchid Inn (now Copthorne Orchid) way back when, and you rounded off my day. Hearing you again makes my day.
Love this song. Sorry just had to critic otherwise I'll give Texans a bad name. The lyrics could be a little better but I'll give you an A for effort. Listen to some Hank Williams if you're old school or Garth Brooks. Can't play country with 60s Rock at your concert if you're a true blue country that wants to tear into Nashville or Texas. Country singers have a fine line that you don't want to cross. Otherwise you are great. You band members also needs to dress the part. Sorry my friend but may
Hi Matthew, glad to see you are still playing ! I saw you perform this great song back in 1980 at the Shangri-La Hotel. I was in town on a business trip from Texas and you made us feel at home ! So many years !
Loved Singapore 79-81 building a plant in Jurong, but missed back home in NY. Listening to Matthew Tan & the Mandarins at the Shangri-la Hotel brought back home a little closer. I haven't been back since 1992. Now I miss Singapore and the good old days there. Listening to "Singapore Cowboy" brings back good memories, and the sound is so great!
hi mathew my uncle brought me thi cassette back from the philipines in the early 80"s and i just loved it i lost the tape when i moved about 15 years ago and haven"t heard singapore cowboy since it"s nice to hear you and your great band again i wish you would come to canada mainly edmonton alberta ihope you read this god bless you and take care

This song 'Singapore Cowboy' sung by Matthew & The Mandarins, I just love it. I now live in CA and I miss this song so much. I cannot find it anywhere in the stores or in i-Tune Store to download...sad.
Thank you all very much for all the support over the years. The Mandarins & I appreciate all your good wishes, comments and attendances at all our shows. My sicere good wishes to all for a Very Happy, Peaceful & Prosperous Lunar New Year of The Tiger. Hope to see you all soon. Take care & God Bless. Matthew Tan
Glad you are well. Bought you a beer a couple of times during your drum solo break in Ghostriders c.1981-83. Did you ever record that? Best version I ever heard. You might remember the night that my friend and I were set upon by the Singapore amateur boxing team! Very unusual event in the Peacock Lounge! No idea what it was about but they definately won - until the police took them away!
Matthew and I share the same thing! haha Im only 21, born and raised in Singapore. But... gets high on country radio and feels Nashville Tennessee is like a second home to me.. Where I wanna be
I loved Mathew Tan and his band in '80 to '83 when I worked in Singapore. I have even sat at the bar in the Peacock lounge, Shangri La Hotel in my overalls at the end of a day's work! Mathew and the Mandarins' version of "Ghost riders in the Sky" could make your back-bone tingle! I believe they do still perform - I did a search for people going to Singapore last year and they were at some Country Club. Just do a Google search. Can anyone tell me if the Chilli Crab is still as good as ever?
here's some love from singapore! where're ya from? i just heard matthew & the mandarins perform at the esplanade tonight. singapore cowboy is a great song. so yeah, they are still performing! and they're having a concert this coming feb at the esplanade too i think.
Thankyou, jacassss, wish I could be on the Esplanade with you in Feb! I'm from N.W. Scotland. Loved Singapore. So clean, so friendly, so much fabulous food! Singapore noodles, Penang kwei teow steamed dumplings prawn balls and of course, Chilli Crab! Lived in Faber Crescent and Pasir Panjang Close. One of my favourite haunts was the Chip Bee Coffee House in Holland Village.
I was stationed (U.S. Navy) in Singapore 77-79 and used to see Matthew Tan & the Mandarins at the Shangri-la Hotel. I haven't been back there since 1989 ... still miss Singapore and my friends there.
wonderful to find this. My husband worked in Singapore also went to see them a lot. Going to Singapore 27/3/09 to 4/4/09 - does anyone know if Matthew and the Mandarins are playing anywhere during tohose dates. I would love to surprise my husband with a ticket we are going to Singapore for his 60th birthday
Supremely tallented band. I saw them many times in the Peacock lounge, Shangri-la hotel when I worked in Singapore in the early Eighties. Would love it if you were able to post my favourite - Ghostriders in the sky - no-one has done it better!
This song reminds of my hometown back in Baguio City,Cordillera,Philippines where folks there loves country music.Nice mountainous cold place and full of lush pine trees.
