Absolutely stunning. The attention to detail and quality is second to none. Now, if I can only find some one in my area here in central Texas who has that kind of talent !!
@1krr thanks! The top of the gate frame is indeed four pieces that have an identical pre-bent shape to them. The scroll piece they surround is another preformed piece - 2 of the same - that you can see me putting together in the beginning of the video.
Very very cool work. I'm starting the same project in a couple of weeks! Was curious how you bent your top rails or if you had someone bend them. Your gate is very similar to what I had envisioned. Again, great work and thanks for the video.
Very nice work- What made you decide to hinge the gate on the "house" side of the driveway instead of the "wall side? Not a criticism, just curious...
@koalityman The decision was from the installer. The gate was so heavy it required the 8 inch post to be in the ground about 50 inches and 800 pounds of concrete. This would have required jackhammering the existing slab to expose the ground, plus it would have been near the base of that large retaining wall. In addition, the installer thought the existing location would distribute the force among the other gate posts.
@quocducnguyen Gate material cost was around $800 if I remember correctly. All of the scrolls were purchased through Kings Metals in Dallas. The hinges were recommended by the installer. They can be adjusted over time to compensate for sag. They are rated at 2000lb per hinge.
Wow!! I was looking for examples to use to make a double gate for the end of my driveway. This is way out of my leaque (so is spelling) but at least I know where to start. It's been a while since you put this up. How is the gate opener holding up? Thanks!! Nice work!!
Not bad for first time my only thing is that apolo gate operator can be used to push to open also and if you did that you could have put the gate operator on the inside so it would not take away from the appearance of the gate ,,,,,just saying
I like the look of your gate. How wide is it?I just started to do the research on driveway gates,as I have never built them before.I would like to put one on the lane to my farm styled like yours.Did you ever see how much it wieghed?good job
@jackel440 The gate is 16 feet 5 inches wide. Glad you like the design! No clue on weight, took two-three adults to tilt up from the ground. I would guess 500#. If you go to kings metals website you can request a free design catalog for design ideas. Good luck!
Ummm yes you can have the opener on the inside....you would have had to install it on the other sind of the gate........on the inside. or mount it on the same side and have it swing in. Nice job on the gate.....BTW your hinges are going to start to sag in a year or two... my suggestion would be to get ball bearing hinges.
The whole point of using an Apollo gate opener with a linear screw drive is so that you can mount the gate mechanism INSIDE where it is protected and still have it open the gate to the outward position. Anyone can walk up to your opener, disable it and open your gate. There is no security in that and it ruins the aesthetics of your nice gate to have it hanging where you can see it from the street.
I appreciate your thoughts. There was really no way to functionally install an inward swinging gate on my property. Trust me, I went through all the possible scenarios. While the outside motor is not asthetically pleasing to you, I am proud of how the gate turned out overall. Also, I never meant for this gate to function as a secure feature. The retaining wall on the left of the gate can be easily scaled, thus no one would bother to try and disable the exterior motor mounted gate.
I don't think you understand. You can mount the opener on the INSIDE of the gate and still have it open to the outside. It is a push to open installation. The gate opens outward and the opener is still inside where it can't be seen from the street.
I am no expert, but the two gate companies that bid on the installation told me the inside mount could not be done due to the gate swinging past 90 degrees.
great job ,man!!!! I work in a workshop of a blacksmith !! wonderful design!!!

That was a hell of a project I bet.
Very nice work man!!!
I like that the gate opens all the way leaving a perfect and clear driveway and closes perfectly.
I just hope your gate isn't too heavy to be hanging there, but I think you already figured it out if it is or not.
thumbs up for the vid man!!

@obbaron Good to know... This project has inspired me to do something similar at my house, and I'll have to consider things like this.
Any ideas for a "next project"?

Great job! Bravo!
The two bold hinges scare the crap out of me. I would put two more (just to be sure). I hate to see one bolt gives way and takes the other bolt down.
How much for material cost?
Are all the scrolls already made or you built them from scratch?
Thanks for sharing this build with us youtubers.
