It has nothing to do with an actual hotdog...But it does have a lot to to do with grabbing a hold of something you want. Get It...!!!
"Slam-A-Jamma"...during an "era" where it was common to do so because we were experimenting not only with our bodies but with our minds through..."enhancing" products.
@bbutters2 yes you are right..elvis was one of there music influences..cant at th...wait i got it he sings little sister ..you are not crazy for thinking that...but other things well........................
Corny and totally stupid is D'yer Mak'er.....oh oh oh oh oh oh...you don't have to go....oh oh oh oh. Zeppelin catalog is full of amazing, great, good, ok, boring, stupid, childish and moronic songs. But the thing is that they made whatever kind of music they wanted to at the time and everyone had input. Stairway is far over rated while a beautiful gem like The Rain song is overlooked by most. Sometimes the best Zep song is a fun song such as Boogie with Stu or Hot Dog.
You're right, this song isn't sub par; at least, not compared to "Tea For One", which is nothing but a remake of "Since I've Been Loving You". THAT song is subpar; "Hot Dog" is simply corny.
@furrytommy Otally disagree. Tea for One is better than SIBLY in my opinion. The solo on that song is one of Page's best. It expresses so much pain and passion.
@furrytommy Kenny Chesney is corny. This song is a departure from the normal LZ. I like it. I played in a Led Zep cover band. You get sick of Stairway, and Black Dog pretty fast. Most Led Zeppelin 1 and 2 is rehashed blues stuff. 3 is more acoustic, 4 is a mix of stuff. None is technically wonderful, but it all rocks. I still have my Supro 1624T, and a National model 80 which is the same tranny set as the T Bolt in a 2x12 cab. Page's T Bolt had 1 12" in it in place of the 15". Got my LP Stds too
@pfcwar5150 I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I know it's hard when you lose a family member. My mom died 17 years ago and I still miss her to this day.
I'm sure your brother is up in heaven thanking you for your dedication. Peace!!
every time i hear this i imagine someone following someone, and then this someone follw the other guy, and then both relise that and change again, with alot of weird kind of stuff appering.
I heard Jimmy Page was smacked out his nut during the making of this album which is why it's not quite up to the standard we are used to from him, any truth in that?
@MegaZephead Four Sticks stinks?? You must be joking.That song is great.There isn't one bad song on Zeppelin 4. Or 1 or 2 for that matter.Hot dog however is pretty corny if you ask me & doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs on In Through The Outdoor. I can picture this song being played on the Lawrence Welk Show with a bunch of couples square dancing in overalls. I always assumed Hot Dog & the Crunge were two songs recorded just for the fun of it. Where's that confounded bridge? Come on lol.
@KISSFAN1970 lol , for some reason i alway"s loved this song, my ? to u is on the dynasty lp, did u like i was made for lovin u?! by the way i am a HUGE zep fan, also like kiss. as u can see in my ? too u!
@MegaZephead Well I'm not going to put you down for liking the song.I just always thought of Zeppelin as a pretty serious band & Hot Dog just seemed like it was written almost as a playful little joke tune.Actually I never cared for Dynasty other than a few songs.That whole album could of been great had they not wimped out with the keyboards & used a better producer. As a song I like I was made for loving you. As a KISS song no. I don't care for it. Although when they play it live it's not bad.
@KISSFAN1970 I know what your saying, but you do realize that on every zep lp its always changing!! they didn"t pander to their fans,which actually made them legend"s!! they could play anything! on the kiss subjuct, dynasty i think was one of their best, because of the changes! (for the good), unmasked to me had too much synth, shandi, is that u, were the only good songs!! after that well i will leave it at that! thanx
{Hot Dog just seemed like it was written almost as a playful little joke tune}
Are you kidding...Hot Dog is no joke. Do you know the degree of musicianship required to play country guitar in the fashion that its played in this song? When country is played like this those guitar players are something else. Few guitarists can play as well as Brian Setzer. Find out the significance of country guitar in his & all Rockabilly guitar. Baffles me...too complicated, I dont even mess with it
Indicative of how great Zeppelin was. This song is almost forgotten completely, yet it is TOP FLIGHT. A classic. A gem. But when you start thinking about When The Levee Breaks, and all the other masterpieces they did, this song is lost in the shuffle. This song is absolutely top shelf.
Having grown up with my teen years during that GREAT MUSIC ERA of the 70's one would never think that Led Zeppelin would do a song with that little country swagger. I guess it just proves when you're good you're good. Thanks for the Post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
