Best playoff series, in any sport, I have ever seen! Devils should have been proud of themselves for being the 2nd best regular season team(points wise) and 1 goal less than NY that year (They obviously parlayed into a winning tradition) The Rangers were awesome that year. Games 1,2,3,6 & 7 were classics BEST POST SEASON SERIES EVER!!! IN ANY SPORT!! Post season hockey makes all other sports seem like playing croquet. NOTHING IS MORE EXCITING THAN NHL PLAYOFFS!! oh yeah & GO RANGERS!

No arguments here, Rangers deserved the win tonight. Devils had plenty of scoring chances, just missed the net, hit the crossbar etc. etc. If they don't start converting those chances, it will be a short series. Best playoff series, in any sport, I have ever seen! Devils should have been proud of themselves for being the 2nd best regular season team(points wise) and 1 goal less than NY that year (They obviously parlayed into a winning tradition) The Rangers were awesome that year. Games 1,2,3,6 & 7 were classics BEST POST SEASON SERIES EVER!!! IN ANY SPORT!! Post season hockey makes all other sports seem like playing croquet. If you knew your history, you would know that there were more than 6 teams when the Rangers won their cups, because the league hadn't contracted to 6 teams until 1942. In addition, the talent pool was more concentrated because there weren't jerkoff 8-seeds making the playoffs. Every team in the post season had a ton of talent. Just like in baseball when expansion happens, pitching gets diluted. Maris and Maguire both broke the HR record in expansion years.

I"m aware of the recession in the early 1990's, but I didn't refer specifically to the early 90's, did I? I referred to the "1980's - 1995 and beyond", i.e. the Reagan years thru the internet boom. No arguments here, Rangers deserved the win tonight. Devils had plenty of scoring chances, just missed the net, hit the crossbar etc. etc. If they don't start converting those chances, it will be a short series. I can't jump on the bandwagon and get on Brodeur about the 2nd goal, he made plenty of big saves, he's allowed a bad mistake, I just hope he got it over with for the series. Devils offense let them down as they have before, and the Rangers, to their credit, took advantage.

I should clarify, the game was in Vancouver, Quinn, up something like 5-2, put guys out there on the power play with less than 3 minutes who according to JD "have never seen a power play in their careers." Funny stuff, JD was in tears when they knocked out Bourque and McTavish- "you tell me, Sam, where did it start? you tell me . . " Fucking homo. Only downside was Gino Odjick missed Keenan's eye with the butt-end between the benches. Sam and JD cried enough for the entire NHL that night.

Yes I remember that game & Sam & JD went nuts that Vancouver started a brawl as they were irate in 1990 when Vukota & Baumgartner jumped the Rangers at the end of a playoff game. Funny thing always was that if the Rangers started a melee they turned the other cheek or came up with an excuse for why it happened. Dont get me wrong I loved the Sam/JD tandum, I'm a huge Ranger fan, but I gotta call it like I see it.

Nomesso (sp?) taking a baseball swing at Kocur, who jumped over it and broke his stick on him on the retaliating cross-check. Keenan mouthing off on the bench and Odjick trying to poke him in the eye. Antoski going after Lowe(?) pretty weak on the Canucks' part, but entertaining.

Mike Keenan was a hard ass coach, unlike Tom Renney, who looks like a corpse in a suit on the bench. Keenan spoke his mind & did'nt care who he offended. In a way though that's why he wore out his welcome in like what, 8 different coaching jobs.

In NY it's an impossible thing (if the Giants didn't win the Superbowl, would anyone complain about Tom Coughlin being done? of course not). Henrik is easily top 25% of goalies in the league, but you're right, no one will ever be Marty. That being said, we haven't managed to beat him this year . . . yet. It is a great sport. What did you think of the Rangers' trade at the deadline? For the Devils minor trade, I'm disappointed to see Cam Janssen go- good team guy, but it didn't look like he would ever play in NJ under Sutter, so at least he went to his hometown where he will see some ice time. Good pickup by JD and the Blues, IMO.

My point is, regular season streaks don't mean a whole lot (and I admit that our ridiculous unbeaten streak against you didn't mean anything). Success is defined in terms of playoff wins, and even moreso by Stanley Cups. Yeah, you beat us 3 times in the playoffs. But we swept the most recent playoff meeting, won 2 Cups since your last playoff victory over NJ, and won an additional Cup since '94.

Historically speaking though, no one cares or remembers who won/swept the season series against who in a particular season, all that matters is how your team did in the playoffs that year.
