You need to read the book (Eaters of the Dead) to better understand what the wendol are. They were intended to be portrayed as a neolithic holdover culture (big hint is the goddess idols). They are not Celts nor are they Romans in any sense of the words. And the Celtic "horned helmets) date from the bronze age and early iron age, and were all ceremonial in nature, not battle armor.

Bad guys were 'Germans'? I don't think so. Womever the 'ba guys' were that were portrayed in the movie they defenitely were throw backs circa the time frame. They didn't even use the 'modern' weaponry of the Vikings, such as swords. Used clubs and spears only. The Germanic peoples by this point were as up to date as anyone else in the area of weapons. Actually, the warriors in this movie were Norse, not celt. You can tell because of the ship design, and the sheer size of their horses. Plus they mention Valhalla several times in the movie and the funeral ceremony at the end was strictly Norse in style. This is an awesome video though, and I still loved the movie
