  • @SSWIKINGgrandson How much of your time did you waste posting all this?

  • @SSWIKINGgrandson Catholic Bavaria invaded the North and made an empty vessel of the capital of the Prussian's. The Black shirts are Italian, the Nazi's humiliated the so called Viking homelands. You are deluded. Nazi = Catholics. Catholics have been trying to take back the north since the Spanish armada failed.

what a pathetically effete cop out of a discussion to say "you have issues"

Maybe i do but how exactly would you know?

Possibly but i reckon you're more likely to be a Pedantic Arsehole!

As for the issues part ,(Don't even try to patronise me i can assure you you don't have the Brainpower!)

I know why you Typed it and my Statement about the Effete cop out of a discussion You STARTED Still Stands!

  • anyway this is a great movie

  • Vikings don't wear horns, Celts did, this movie is anti western. The western people are the horrible monsters who think they're bears. Romans soldiers have an association with Bears. This film is anti Celtic-Romano.

  • You don't consider vikings part of western culture, since when? They invaded England and Europe enough times to make a big impact on the culture of the entire continent.

  • I never said that, I said they portrayed Celts and Western Europeans as beasts and cannibals. Western Europeans are not vikings, they're called norse for a reason, western europeans are from Ireland to Iberia

  • You seem to be both agreeing and then disagreeing with the same point?

All i'll say, is f your dismissing the vikings impact on western europe as none existent, then your argument has so many holes its certainly not worth debating on a youtube video.

  • I laughed quite loudly at the venom here. Blah blah blah, let's insult cultures but not actually answer with any relevant points, oh and to boot lets bring up grammar to appear self important.

Oh wait you already did. On a mildly more relevant note type 'vikings effect on europe' into google, before continuing ranting more nonesense at everyone.

  • @javonoUTube Here is some battles for you study them closely.

Battle of Assandun,Siege of Asselt,Battle of Brávellir,Battle of Brentford (1016),Battle of Brissarthe,Battle of Brunanburh,Battle of Cynwit,Battle of Clontarf,First Battle of CorbridgeSecond Battle of Corbridge,Battle of Englefield,Battle of Ethandun,Battle of Fulford,Battle of Fýrisvellir,Battle of Glenmama,Battle of Hafrsfjord,Battle of Hjörungavágr,Battle of Maldon,Siege of Paris (885886),Battle of Rastarkalv

    Need more?

  • @javonoUTube And Please stop beeing a smartarse Irish

  • @javonoUTube u ar obvously ignorant.

  • You need to read the book (Eaters of the Dead) to better understand what the wendol are. They were intended to be portrayed as a neolithic holdover culture (big hint is the goddess idols). They are not Celts nor are they Romans in any sense of the words. And the Celtic "horned helmets) date from the bronze age and early iron age, and were all ceremonial in nature, not battle armor.

  • The Wendol are the Aurgnacian culture in Czech region and France. The Arabs are closely related to Scandinavians 20-30 KYA. The film openly connects Scandinavian culture to Arab culture and depicts the rest of the people as cannibals. As for cultural characteristics the film creates a general association between prehistory and modern history and depicts Celtic-Romano people as cannibals.

  • The Wendol are not necessarily the Aurginacian culture, as you are basing that on the venus figurine, of which examples have been fund from france to Siberia and ranging from 35000 years ago to 11000 years ago. You should also take note that this is a re-imagining of the Beowulf story with the monster Grendel being played by the entire wendol, and hence the cannibalism is a necessary part of the story.

  • This Film is propaganda linking Haplogroup 'I' with Haplogroup 'J'. Haplogroup 'R' is meant to be the Wendol who are derived from the Venus of Dolní Věstonice. R is associated with Celtic culture R = British(Irish) Western European. 'I' = Viking and Baltic(Balkan).

  • @javonoUTube No i think its just a story about some vikings and an arab fighting cavemen. No celts, no slavs, no romans, no balts, no irish and is based on a retelling of the anglo saxon poem Beowulf. nothing more than that.

  • I love this movie :)

But truth to be told, horses weren't that big back then.. however the northmen (Vikings) were and that posed several problems..

There was a Viking Chieftain who was so big that he couldn't sit on a horse, because his legs would drag along the ground.. He was called Rolf Ganger.. mean Rolf the Walker :)

    Anyway It's a brilliant movie :)

  • gange rolf :)

  • awesome movie. one of my favs

  • val hal la

  • That movie seems awesome...

  • Anyone know what breed of horses the Northmen are riding? They look like draught horses (Shire/Clydesdale) but seem finer with longer legs. One or two don't have feather on the legs either. It's bothering me a lot (and I know the grey one is an arab...!)

    Help Please!!

  • back in those days I think u will find they where a cross of all types mostly draft type also explaining their strong draft looks. but i know they cant be a belgian, not that big or a friesian because they contain two colors. I would say a cross with a heavy draft of some sort wouldn't u think so ? kinda a ahard puzzle

  • Thanks killerazc. I know it's 'only' a film, probably shot in Canada so it limits the breeds it could be. Having said that I saw some draft animals working this weekend at a show and an old fashioned-type Shire horse is actually very leggy. I suppose if they can dye the wolfhound, they can shave a Shire's legs...!

  • lol XD probably knowing them

  • I've got some pics of some very leggy drafts. Not sure what breed though.

  • shit and here i am caling them belgian horses :p we have horses and stuff but im not really an expert on the topic so ill just guess ur right :p

  • their fjords :)

  • shit ok maybe not :p the wendol are riding fjords, got ur question wrong.

aaahm the northmen? their not all the same kind but i think their just BWP's .... belgisch warmbloed paard. well thats dutch but i think their called belgian warmbloods in english.

  • I love this movie even tho they died the wolfhound orange to make him show up better in the mud and rain.

    Patricia

  • my fav film of all time not sure this music goes with it though but good clusters of film to choose

  • Bad guys were 'Germans'? I don't think so. Womever the 'ba guys' were that were portrayed in the movie they defenitely were throw backs circa the time frame. They didn't even use the 'modern' weaponry of the Vikings, such as swords. Used clubs and spears only. The Germanic peoples by this point were as up to date as anyone else in the area of weapons. As far as the Anglo Saxons are concewrned, virtually everything I have read is that they originally came from Germany and spread out from there.

  • Germans?`wtf, The Germans werent Vikings, THey were catholics in thoose days. THe Vikings were Scandinavians, Swedes,Danes,Norwegians.

THe Rus in the East were Swedes.

  • The Scandinavian Norse are part of the overall Germanic cultural and language group. They were the most isolated of the Germanic peoples and so did not convert to Christianity until much later, but the pagan beliefs of the Germans were much the same.

  • @asmodeon Ancient English & Ancient Slavic share common attributes. Western Germanic peoples & Eastern Slavs are closely related culturally and ethnically. The Austro-Hungarian Empire (Holy Roman Empire) was not Scandinavian. The Finns are linguistically related to Koreans, how can you sum up all of Europe as being the same?

  • I didn't sum up all of Europe as the same at all. I merely stated that the Scandinavians are closely related with the other Germanic peoples of the more southern regions in language and culture than anyone else, ask any linguist or historian. And the Finns are not of the same culture and linguistic group which the Danes, Norwegian, and Swedes belong to.

  • Holy Roman Empire is Scandinavian then? I guess the Scandinavians use a Germanic Alphabet? They've adopted southern culture from 5th century onwards, "WE ARE THE BORG, YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE". Scandinavians are Gothic, Franks are Germanic.

  • No you idiot, the Holy Roman Empire was German, pure and simple. However, the term "Germanic" denotes far more than the modern notion of Germany. And fun fact, the Scandinavians DID use a Germanic Alphabet, it was called Elder Futhark, which is related to the various other runic alphabets used through early medieval Europe, including Anglo-Saxon England. The Scandinavians, the Franks, the Goths, the Saxons, the Vandals, and the Alemanni, etc. are ALL Germanic you thick fuck.

  • You have to resort to ad hominem attacks, throwing red herrings here and there doesn't earn you any meme points, Scandanavians are native Europeans whereas the list you mentioned comes from west Asia, you stupid barbarian. I was talking about an alphabet(700AD+) not carvings on stone monoliths. You are creating a hasty generalization of people. Fallacious lying scum bag.

  • Are you kidding me? Every culture I mention originates in eastern and central Europe from the same overall culture group. if you take ten second to do a fucking internet search on futhark you'll realize that it was used up to the 12th century, by various cultures within the Germanic group.

  • Sure & the Anglo-Saxons wiped out Celtic-Romano British, over 70% of British people are of a different ethnicity to Scandinavians and the same can be said for Ireland, but the history books point to a different conclusion. Germanic language is Indo-European with a common ancestor tongue in Asia, Scandinavians are not Indo-Europeans, Scandinavians adopted Indo-European culture through trade and assimilation.

  • The Anglo-Saxons did nothing of the sort. They conquered the Romano-British, and except for Wales, Cornwall and Scotland, the Romano-British adopted Saxon culture and intermarried. DNA tests of the British population show that the vast majority of people have the same general ancestry, largely deriving from the Neolithic populations of ancient Britain and Ireland. And another fun fact, the Celtic languages are also of Indo-European origin.

  • So the Normans have no effect on Britain after Saxon incursion? It was the Normans who kept Saxon language alive and created the Frankenstein tongue that we now speak in. Celts have history in Asia, especially Asia-minor where the Hittites ruled for 1000's of years, the people who were strong enough to stop Empire from expanding, you do know that Asia traded with Britain long before Rome.

  • @asmodeon that is one theory made by a liberal unionist backed scientist. i am of mixed English (Saxon) and Scot/Welsh (Celtic) blood and proud of both.

  • I would never claim you weren't. However, what you call "Celtic" is not the same as the actual continental Celtic populations. The Insular Celts, while share some similar culture with the Gauls were genetically different from them. The Welsh, Scots, Irish, Cornish etc. are all largely based off of the indigenous population of the British Isles that predates so-called Celtic culture. I'm not denying your culture as a mix of English Scottish and Welsh, but genetically it isn't what you think.

  • @asmodeon My culture is English, my ethnicity is Saxon/Celt. Like i said your view is based on one remote theory backed by a liberal unionist government to try and stop the growth of nationalism by saying "actually we are all the same race so no need for seperation". Its pretty offensive.

Also bare in mind oppenhiemers theory actually shows the western part of the island is genetically different from the eastern part so even if it were true we'd still be different.

  • Have to find this movie. Anyone know who the peoples were who were wearing the buffalo skins/heads and attacking the Vikings on horseback? I've seen the clip but there was no explanation.

  • The movie is a bit vague. But the writer had them as neanderthals.

  • they are wendolls, ancient men, like neanderthals. The book was wrote based on the Ibn Fadlan´s narrations (Antonio Banderas in the movie).

  • I know. I read the book.

  • the bad guys were germans

  • more like demons

  • In the book "Eaters of the Dead", the badguys were a tribe of the last surviving Neanderthals, like Theeldergoth said.

  • Spectacular Viking Warrior movie: The 13th Warrior is a Epic Classic. Great cast & the scenery showned of the movie above is priceless-I love the Norse Viking hero Beuwolf/Bewlyif (the way they pronounced his name was oddly beautiful & strange) & his brave crew of Viking Norsemen: very nice & the song heart touching. Thanks!

  • The name of the song is??? And the artist please

  • you could've read the description..

    Loreena McKennit - Dante's Prayer

  • @bianconero1897 The chant at the beginning is found on a Russian Orthodox CD called Sacred Treasures III.

  • does anybody knows if this movie has an (EXTENDED VERSION)? and if yes, where can i get it from ??? please.

  • @necroMetalhead, sorry but your wrong, its the other way around, its the Anglo-saxon-english that look more like the Norse. and NOT the celts, read your history books, the Norse are like anglo-saxon both of the GERMANIC people, and the celt are not, tho the are like the germanic also of indo-european decent.

  • RE: "read your history books, the Norse are like anglo-saxon both of the GERMANIC people, and the celt are not"

Someone needs to inform bluefirewitch that the Anglo-Saxons were a Germanic tribe; she thinks they were Celts.

  • Oh, one other thing: bluefirewitch also thinks that Odin is a Celtic sun God.

  • KANTABRIA, SUCKERS

  • very good--meleagrid

  • I love the music but for some reason it doesn't really fit with the image.

  • we fought we came, and died in our name.

  • these scots and english will never understand ...the sadness.or the pain.

  • and why are we incapable of understanding these emotions, and why are we unique to this incapacity. please i would love to know how someone from a country like australia that is so steeped in ancient history and shrouded in mystery could explain this to me?. do you even know where the english originate from?

  • lol ever heard of trollage ?

  • sorry my mistake. i thought i was talking to someone who had a serious point to make. mixing australians and history! the original odd-couple.

  • if i wanted to have serious historic discussions on the history of vikings i wouldnt be doing it watching a movie from hollywood.

  • you still havnt told me why it apparantly is that english and scots will never understand the pain?

  • Because that is what a viking would think.

  • Don't group the Scots and the english together. They are two different peoples. also the Celts are very simallar to the Norse.

  • Necro: not really, except they are both descended from Indo-Europeans. Germanic people, with their specific Germanic culture and language, branched off considerably later.

  • Same here, Spectral! :P But I for one am bursting-proud of the Viking blood that came along with the Irish part of my heritage.

  • HONOUR AND GLORY

  • to fear death is to be already dead in life

for glory and plunder, for the soul of the true warrior lives forever.

  • Yeah, Amon Amarth is heavy into Viking mythology. But, Celtic works just as well, considering the Vikings conducted extensive raids in Ireland and founded many towns, including Dublin, Limerick, Mullingar, Wexford, Waterford and Leixlip.

Literature, crafts, and decorative styles in Ireland and the British Isles reflected Scandinavian culture, if you pay attention.

  • I really shouldn't post in two threads at 2 am after working a double shift.

Ignore the part about Amon Amarth. The rest stands.

    Gah. Need sleep.

  • yer i can understand that LOL

  • but these guys are vikings, are they not?

  • yes they are ;)

I just liked the music a lot! :)

  • @sceali yes and the prayer is also from the Kingdom of Heaven

  • i should let u know that the celts were all over the place back then, ireland, scotland, brittany, germany, italy. they were basically native fighters

  • Exactly. I thought it was more of a way of life, belief system....they were all over Europe, but Ireland was the last hold-out, if I remember my history correctly.

  • can you tell me what was the name of the song

  • The song is called Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt

  • why celtic ? they are germanic

  • on the note, celts are germanic too.

  • wtf?!? celts were never germanic... where do you read this bullshit? XD

    Hail to the celtic gods

  • hey,!

    yeah, it's going okay! :)

    and tnx! :)

  • I'm half dutch half swedish with a german name

    how cool is that!?

  • very cool! :p

so do you speak Dutch and Swedish? :D

  • oh cool! I have a norwegian dude on msn, and he uses his microphone once in a while, I'll ask if he can say that word XD must be fun :P

  • cool!!! you're so lucky living in that area :P Holland is so boring XD if it comes to the landscape :p

  • hihi :P

I really like the norwegian pronounciation! :D

    it's so jumpy! XD

  • yeah I know! :)

so it's not too hard to learn Norwegian, but you're grammar is way different :p

do you go to Denmark and Norway often?

Dutch and German is pretty similiar yes, I can understand without any difficulty! but I do have some trouble writing it ;)

  • yeah, I can read a bit of Swedish!! :D it's very similiar indeed! :D Danish even more.. :) right? :P

    i'm not German, close! :P I'm Dutch! :D

  • nope! you're swedish? :P

I am learning Norwegian though!! :)

  • This story is quite close to the story of Beowulf and Beowulf was a Geat, neither Celt or Norwegian. 13 Geats went to rescue Rothgar just as 13 warriors went to rescue Rothgar in Beowulf. I think for now on I will get drunk on Mead only...

  • yeah, films like this makes me proud of beeing a Norwegian. the vikings pride of scandinavia

  • Beautiful combination...I'm fan of both Loreena and the 13th Warrior:D

  • ahem. the celts originated in ireland. this movie is based on the nordics.

  • I fucking love this Movie!

I am proud to be a Norwegian!!!

  • I think I'm one of the few that knew you knew, they were not Celtic. haha +D

  • VEZRY GOOD! THank you, thank you. Am watching 13th Warrior as we speak, for like the 19th time. Good music choice and film clips. I agree with Stallbean.

  • thanks a lot!

  • Besides that I must say that this is the best film of the Thirteenth Warrior I have seen, the best choosing of clips. Hyll Norge, en viking gir aldrig opp sitt fedreland :)

  • I know its Norway :p but I just loved the song ;) anywayzz thanx for the supporting comment aswell :)

  • Sorry but it has nothing to do with celts, this is Norway

  • do u have the part where the arab prays ?

  • I have the whole movie ;)

  • Excellent film.Good Video. Great Job.

  • This I adore much. Gracias

  • Loreena is great, as always.

  • thank you :) thank you very much :D

  • Actually, the warriors in this movie were Norse, not celt. You can tell because of the ship design, and the sheer size of their horses. Plus they mention Valhalla several times in the movie and the funeral ceremony at the end was strictly Norse in style. This is an awesome video though, and I still loved the movie

  • Beautifully done, my friend.

  • thank you :)
