The impressive part is at 2:37 when the 1st girl drops down, and David jumps up. Notice before how she puts her legs wide so deliberately? And then David's legs are also widely spaced? There is a trap door beneath them. The timing is incredible, the illusion is simple.
How do you know that specifically? The trick would work either way, but that they both position their legs in that wide stance to me implies that there is a gap underneath them.
ive watched this trick literally hundreds of times on VHS since i recorded his tv special about 12 years ago. i know how its done but i honestly wish i didnt. this is one of the best illusions ever, not for how hard it is but just the whole performance is unreal.

As to the actual switch that happens on top of the table, there is a simple black curtain loosely laid atop the table itself that is controlled by a relay switch to drop after the backlighting is brought down. David comes up behind this curtain and as the girl brings the curtain to waist height, he slips up between her legs between herself and the curtain...she throws the curtain upwards while dropping backwards, david stands up and tosses the curtain away.

thats a great trick and very effective, perfectly excicuted and the build up was superb and i think i now how it was done but the point of magic is to be amazed and thats what he does brilliantly!!!
