@Junior59157 In 1987 the best engine was Honda, and the Mclaren engine not speed properly. Lotus in 1987 have Honda engines, the some of the Williams champion.
Prost won in 1989 in Mclaren Honda, when Honda had favouritism in favour Senna. Prost almost won in 1988, with the same favouritism in favour Senna.
That is an strong argument to say Prost was better than Senna. Only in France 88 Prost had his Honda engine as he expected to be. The result was poleposition for Prost, victory, and fastest lap, and that Prost destroyed Senna.
There have been many great and wonderful drivers in F-1, there is no question about that. I will never forget journalist and F-1 team owner Rob Walker's comments in which he stated again and again that Alain was so smooth he appeared slow by comparison with his rivals. I think that tells a great deal. More, it's clear to me that Alain Prost was a gentleman and it was only the tactics of others which brought from him actions such as they, themselves wrought upon him.
The best thing to me still is that re retired as reigning champion. five months later Senna died in a Williams. this cold have been Prost as well. Alain knew that enough is enough - others didn't.
You have to remember though that Prost was also older than Senna. Senna died very much in his prime, so please dont make it sound as though he didn't know when to quit. Prost still raced at the age of 37 (I believe), when he was clearly past his prime. Senna died at 34.
And also remember that he quit because he lost his contractual power to veto his partner (which he used in 1993)... and could not prevent Senna coming to Williams.
prost was brilliant, better than brilliant and well worthy of being one the greatest drivers of all time. but i will have to say that senna was better and that he was THE greatest driver of all time.
I agree with you 100% I would say that Prost was the best technical driver of all time, absolutely no doubt on that. Senna had incredible technical understanding and was very strong mentally also, but he was flawed. And the main thing wrong about Prost was his political manoevering behind the scenes that I disagreed with.
"We would all travel on a jumbo together back from the longhaul races. Often talking about the other drivers and almost forgeting that prost had won the race!" M.Walker.
Says it all really. Senna often revired and massively talented was the dirtest player in the field, taught Schmacher everything he knows. Prost was always the smoothest by far but almost boring to watch the ease it did it lap after lap. The Professor.
The video begins showing Damon Hill retirement from the German GP. The FW-15 had a superb chassis and Damon tried to make the distance without change the tyres, surely he had the best knowledge about the car´s behaviour, having been Williams tester for two years. But again the professor gave his lesson, this time to his younger team mate...

Great pilot monumentally defeated both by Nelson Piquet and Senna.

After Senna, he was the best.
but Senna with a good car (after 1987) winned 3 of 5 against Prost.
Prost was very good driver. Senna was the best

Alain Prost gets overshadowed by Ayrton Senna. Senna was great but so was Prost!
