  • Beautiful singing by the choir but almost unlistenable because of the delay (some comments say it's echo) in the choir reaching the recording microphones behind the orchestra. Interesting slow pace at the beginning if correct that performers adjusted the temp to suit the venue. A pity the video excludes the 'Amen' that follows straight after - I hear it as one continuous piece.

  • Handel portrayed the highest manifestation of inspiration, i wish the catholic church would consider canonising such great musicians of classic time, for their contribution in music is irrefutable

  • The wonderful acoustic delay in this hall makes for poor recording here but it is surely a pre-cursor to that ethereal sound we're likely to hear from the choruses in Heaven, eh?

  • @jingling30 ... You aren't really in a place to call atheism self refuting, have you read the bible?

  • What I like about this particular performance, is that it was recorded in a rather large space a lot of echoes, and I can tell that the performers knew that, and made the most of it at the good times, and then were very deliberate at the right times to perform breaks.

  • Bravo for the sopranos!

  • very good rendition, a little slow though

  • can't be sloppy on Handel because you hear it ALWAYS- that is why he was a genius!

  • Wow. the chorus need to catch up with the orchestra. it needs to be tighter.

  • Amen chorus is another video - check the listing at right.

  • You can hear that they are a good choir. They just got killed by the huge acoustic lag of where they were singing. I wouldn't make any excuses for the choir (ie...like some who say they're young etc.) Without in ear monitors, that much lag can kill any choir.

  • Can't understand them? Maybe you have bad ears or have never heard the Messiah performed in a large church or building that echoes! This is a beautiful performance! :)

  • Ouch....

  • I remember hearing about a train wreck in Wheeling WV back on 12/10/06 --- this must have been it!!

  • Are you people serious? Out of tempo? The band? First of all, it's a younger choir AND it's in a large church with LOTS of echo issues - that's what you are hearing. Also, it's not a band. Ok, the conductor is in a chari, but maybe he has a bad back...

  • The singers need more annunciation, I can't understand most of what they're singing. Like was said before, they're all off tempo.

  • The band is to loud over powers the singers

  • Remember this is live - not recorded in the studio. It's a little hard to balance the volume of singers vs orchestra. Seems very good to me. I like the echo effect you get live in a church.

  • bass and tenor is way out of tempo, the mismatch with the orchestra sounds just, well lets say, not good... i highly recomend the arnold schönberg chor with this masterpiece

  • It's not just the Tenors and bassi, Bro.

  • Oh! come on!

It's not the absolute accuracy to the score- Just feel the enthusiasm!

Enjoy for what it is . a great bunch of folks giving their all.

I hope to God the music police don't ever get control.

    Good on ya Bethany!

  • Beautiful, my church has being doing Handel's rendition for 65 years..and we sound just as good as this choir.

  • Are any of them watching the conductor? If I wasn't sure, I would think they were singing "All We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray, Every one to His Own Way"

  • haha good oneee

  • blessing and honor glory and power be unto him! that siteth upon the throne and unto the lamb! it's so catchy =]

  • my FAVOUriTE handel moment!!!!

  • Excellent tempo, key!!!

  • EEK. Come to video of one of (if not THE) most powerful choral works in Western Music, and the comments are all theological arguments.

How about the music, people? Regardless of your belief or lack of belief, the power of Handel's composition and this choir's performance should be the real issue here.

  • Revelations 5:12 Worthy was the lamb that was slain

  • Cute :)

  • All Glory and praises to God.

  • Theology!

  • Praise God for the Lamb that was slain....

Even so come quickly Lord Jesus..

  • I completely disagree with you guys, you are simply insane if you think it's 'demonic'

  • I agree very much to the person below me. Spiritual music is suppose to be pleasing to god, not ourselves. that seems to be what people today get wrong. visit my page!

  • Then how is it that He has the ability to care or not?

  • Atheism is just reduced to self refuting statements about reality so they can have their own moral codes and get a 'free' ticket to do as they feel. Its just smoke and mirrors.

  • @jingling30 This is a totally inaccurate representation of what atheism is. Atheism doesn't STAND for anything by itself. It is, in fact, the ABSENCE OF a specific metaphysical position. It says only what one DOES NOT believe, not what one does. Neither does it provide any information about a person's ethics. Whereas Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religions necessarily imply a certain set of values, atheism qua atheism does not represent a specific code of values or morals.

  • @Jumpsuit93 the above mentioned three Abrahamic religions are immoral disgusting violent and promote no values whatsoever. Other than that I agree with you.

  • God loved us so much that he sent his only son for an ultimate sacrifice to wash us of our sins, sins past present and future. All he asks in return is that we believe on him Jesus christ. Then will your eyes be opened. God does not want it to be a 'religion', religion is for people who want to be or feel holy some other way by doing good works or by trying to follow the law, but when you go by the law you must forfill the whole law which is impossiblle. Jesus has done away with the law.

  • @jingling30 Is that what christians believe?

  • @jingling30

Yeah well my imaginary friend in the sky is better than your imaginary friend in the sky! So there!

  • @jingling30

This is beautiful music; let's not bring religion into this.

Music unites us, but religion usually just divides us.

  • @jingling30 someone who believes in a talking snake and a man living inside a fish ought not to lecture others about smoke and mirrors. You are a fraud and those who brainwashed you are all charlatans

  • @jingling30 there was this one time God had no idea where abel sneaked off to, so he asked cain, and cain said "how should i know? am I my brothers keeper?" God was just lying, he knew where Abel was of course. We are made in God's image believe it or not, and thats why athiests lie.

  • @joshgura God is not a man that he can lie. What he says becomes so, thus lying is not possible. The question was an oportunity for Cain to surrender what he had done, instead he had surrendered to sin. He had killed Able because Able gave more gladly than Cain, God knew Ables gift was of the firstfruit and the best he could give, he gave it gladly because he loved God. .O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

  • @jingling30 I'm an atheist and know many atheists. I'm sure that some are out there, but neither myself nor any of my atheist friends think that we have "free" ticket to do as we feel. My moral code, even though I am an atheist, is the same as all other decent people. Do good unto others, help those in need, try to make the world a better place.... I don't need a holy text to tell me that doing the right thing is right. It comes from being raised right and from having empathy.

  • this is music... not like the post-modern mindless simplistic junk today that is spun as "spiritual". This stuff is literally inspired. Today's stuff is demonic.

  • Almost as astonishing as anyone believing that we came from rocks?

  • Dahhhh you didn't come from rocks. You came from rocks from outer space. Geezzz get educated. That's what I learned at MIT. Seed theory. It rocks (no pun intended)!!!

  • God sent rocks to help us out, pretty much. it took longer than a week though. "they" probably mistranslated "7 billion years" into seven days. isn't the fact that much of the matter that makes us comes from stars proof of gods existence? i think it's amazing enough.

  • it's really both

  • i love singing this!

  • towards the "blessing and honour" part the timing goes a bit awry but not a bad effort

  • Stunningly beautiful.

    Happy Holy Week, everyone!

  • my choir is singing the whole messiah book tomorrow

  • our choir had to sing this song

  • all earth praise the Lord!

  • we will be performing this on this coming saturday.

  • I'll be playing this exact concert this weekend, how exciting.

  • You hear great anthems like this n imagine how joyous heaven will be!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can those Bible thumbers just shut up and appreciate this magnificent chorus for its own virtues...

  • It is indeed a magnificent chorus.

  • For your information, the text of this music is directly from the Bible and Handel was inspired by the Bible and by God Himself(as quoted by Handel).

  • I don't doubt that he was. I think he was inspired by God in many compositions besides this one also, and I think that J.S. Bach was inspired by God as well.

  • @tallswede68 i have heard that handel locked himself away for seven days and nights and wrote the entire work in that timespan.

  • jesus rules

  • I love this anthem is one of my choirs great anthems

  • jesus is the lord of all

  • As great as ever!

  • good, excellent, some for replya several times
