I remember this album like it was yesterday. Every year my family would decorate the house together. Hot chocolate, sometimes popcorn, and some good ole' Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers!
I'm singing with the choir - H.B. Barnum Life Choir in this video. Very fun! I was 13 or 14 - i recall it was filmed at this church over near Ojai I believe. Lake Piru? it was summer time too. not winter lol I'm at .04 and 1.39.
Ty so much for posting this. I used to own this but when someone broke into my apartment they stole most of my videos and this was one of them. Kenny and Dolly's voices blend so equally.
This is my grandfathers favorite song, used to play the tape and turn it up really loud constantly and do a little jig. Sadly we lost him a month ago on the 6th. Christmas won't be the same this year but I will always have those memories with him and this whole cassette. Put's a smile on my face and memories in my mind. Too bad my son will never get to have those memories with my Papa.
i know that same feeling..my mother used to play this tape when i was a kid, ive always liked this music at christmas..my mom died 5 years ago and its hard to hear this stuff, but i feel like i have to...i have 3 kids that wil never have any memories with my mom around...
I remember as a college student many yrs ago, when this came out on cassette tape, I could not wait to go home that yr, and I listened to this song the entire way home, needless to say i wore the tape out and now have it on cd many yrs after the fact, love dolly and love it when she sings with kenny
My mom use to like Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I gave her a CD with this song on. This was a good video of this song "With Bells On." I liked it when the people in the background were singing the chorus of this song as well.
The original Once upon a Christmas album needs to see a CD re-issue (not the butchered version that RCA has out at present) and this version of "With Bells On" (complete with the choir) should be added as a bonus track.
It could be a copyright issue as the soundtrack is still owned by RCA records. Kenny Rogers had a huge dissagreement with them while he was signed to them in the 1980s about the way they were handling his career. RCA deleted all of his solo material after he moved to WEA in 1989.
Everytime I hear this song, I think of My Grandmother who passed away 6 years ago. This was one of her favorite songs from that tape. She'd say "I going home with bells on!"
I think it made her think of her own childhood! It does me too!
My Aunt gave me her original tape she bought in 84'
That's a nice story, I used to listen to this album every christmas when I was a kid (indeed, I still do now). This is one of the most upbeat christmas songs I have ever heard.
