I have the same dog! Got my uncle! We built him and our other dog, a huge dog house but our Malinois prefers to sleep outside. Our Malinois paws at the door leading to the backyard, when he has to go to the bathroom. He is extremely friendly and protective too. Some times he seems almost human. Cocks his head to the left or right sometimes, and is extremely intelligent.
@19grand I got a male and there isn't enough money in the world for me to get rid/sell him. They're friendly, playful, protective when needed, and mine is a big baby since he thinks he's a lap dog. I would recommend getting one to anybody.
@19grand very. mine is laying next to me right now. he nudges my hand or looks at me if i stop petting him as if he were questioning why i stopped. hes actually my boyfriends dog but i spend more time with the dog(my bf works midnights and gone for a long period of time each month) than he does. when hes gone the dog mopes around the house.
Oh, they're so lovely! This may sound weird, but thank you for posting this. I used to have a Mal who looked almost exactly like Sophie, but he died a while ago from mysterious circumstances and it's always been hard for me. He used to do that kind of couch-jumping with his sister (who's alive, but her pet was my mom, not me). Seeing this helps with the mourning somehow.
BTW guys : Mals don't ruin houses, seriously. They're just very agile, that's all. Mine played this game on CAR ROOFS. Cute.
Well, thanks for the comment but the fact is that I'm going from being strictly all cats (indoors) to adding dogs to the mix, etc. So they will gain access to my house in phases. They were both abandoned so I'd guess that a home with a big yard outside may be preferable to being euthanized.
Oh wow, nice looking doggies you have... a bit large to be tearing around the living room like puppies hahah, mine definitely arent aloud on the furniture, some ppl enjoy spoiling them like children though
I luv Belguin Milinois!! XD I've had 2 over the years, I have my 2nd one now and unfortanatly, the other past away. I've had good times with that dog... They're so funny not to mention
i have a 4 month old malinois and stands at 16inches, is it a normal height for them at that month.. she is also jumping and running around the house like that, very energetic. Love malinois... they're the best and very intelligent too.
I have a black Malinois (3 years) I´m training him since he´s 3 months old & he never forgot the first things.
He runs, jumps, grab things, transport them in his mouth, only cross the street in the zebra, etc. But I want to train other skills such as agility.
Does anyone know where can I know more info about this breed? Or good books about the malinois? He is always defying me to new adventures, he never stops & I must follow him.
I love the comments - especially since they are my dogs! No, they do not eat the couch, they are house dogs, have been herding, (previous was working retired) we do not need to use compulsion on Clara (she is very sensitive) and Sophie is a rescue mix, she hangs with the Belgian crowd. They are a bit different from GSD - hang around one for a while and you will get it. Thanks for watching our girls in action, agree or not TedShred! B&C - having Mals for 12 years and counting!
Couch jumping leads to couch eating? What a joke. I have 2 Mal's and they play hard like that all the time, and it hasn't lead to ANY couch eating or eating anything else other than food.
I'm sorry about your loss. I know it's been three years but you still have the memories and sometimes that can be painful. Malinois are the best breed out there. I don't understand why they're not more popular than they are.
i think its becuz not very many ppl know about them. i think they would go with german shepherds becuz they r more popular and they ppl prolly know more about them even tho they are pretty much the same
Can any one help me replace my Malinois ? I lost mine in 05 after a awefull car accident, that left me with a broken back & heart. PLEASE PLEASE email me

My puppy would decimate the house if she were allowed inside! She's tearing up the backyard as I write this.

@Jakey92407 you have a lot to learn about dogs if you keep a puppy strictly outside.

All I'm saying is the Malinois is one of the most high strung dogs in the world. I have one. Couch jumping will only lead to couch eating and such
