6 people don't know music... I appreciate the fact that John Mayer actually likes to branch out and become accustomed to other genres. That's what being a successful musician is all about.
Is there anything that this man isn't brilliant at. Detractors aside, (who cares), he is truly an amazing muso. Kudos. This music is so thick and creamy you could swim through it. As that wanker Letterman says in the clip......that was great.
I'm always impressed how into the music is John Mayer. You can tell that it is just rolling through him. It is amazing to watch. I actually have this track and was playing it, but then I just paused it to come on YouTube and watch it live.
I love the bit where Botti and Mayer harmonize for just an instant. Those two instruments sound so lovely together. I wish they would do an EP together or something.
love the trompetist Melvin Davis... you should check out some of the stuff i made with Lee Ritenour... especially "Papa was a rolling stone" live version... it's awesome!!!
The only thing about Mayer performing these songs is that his voice just isn't as strong and full as Sinatra's, but he's still able to capture the mood and feeling of the song, which makes for a GREAT performance along with Botti and Kilson.
Check out music performed by Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack - that's really the epitomy of "The Golden Age of Songwriting", as it's called...
If you're into pop/rock artists' covers of these songs, definitely take a look at Sting's version of this song, and Bono/Sinatra's "I've Got You Under My Skin", among many others... But really, just youtube Sinatra. You'll hit gold.
well if you like country theres plenty artist like john mayer, not as goof but yeah,, and well you will love frank sinatra if you like blues like chris botti
They've also done "Glad to Be Unhappy" on the Tonight Show w/Jay Leno, and that was also very good. Both of them very fantastic musicians, and very long careers ahead of them.
just response to the why his so jazzed influence, I would imagine Berkley had something to do with it, but although he has always heavily leaned into blues and the modes that come with it, hes shown diverse love for you m.davis and coltrane, even w.montgomery, scofield, methany etc.
As always people think it is a competitiion. No one has anything on Sinatra. Mayer can sing and play about 4 different genres with ease. He has no mob connections and does not drink a bottle of scotch a night. Next to that he is probably the most talented musician that I have seen in my lifetime.
I can't believe how much John just sprints across the face of music. Playing his Pop from Your Body is a Wonderland to his blues like Out Of My Mind to being featured with Kayne West and Fallout Boy to playing Jazz on the Tonight Show.. man. He's just killing it these days.
You know, most people are too fucking stupid to realize this. I can't count how many bandwagon teeny boppers speak poorly of his early music (undoubtedly bc they heard someone else share the sentiment) and usually mention something along the lines of "now he's playing his true music" or something hopelessly uninformed. I'm certain they can't play the guitar. Good guitarists realize how amazing his song structure was before he started "soloing". I have little patience for these people.
@BrannonMcConkey I doubt that most even know he left Berkley school of music too. I came across this b/c I'm obsessed with Chris Botti, this is a perfect duo.
this man is a true musicman, he would fall for every new step that he saw with no hesitation... i loved someone who made a big question mark every time he/she made a new fresh start and not dwelled on the past. considered him like heath ledger on the movie category.
for not having any backround in jazz theory he did an excellent job on this tune. im interested to see how far he can go with this genre of music if he chooses to.
this is so nice dont get me wrong i love this love and im a really big fan of john mayer (biggest fan) but i miss him when he was young with his blues, pop and acoustic stuff. jazz.... its beutiful i love it but 4 him i dont no. i do love it when he plays but he s a got a new album coming out and i just kinda hope its the same kind of thing of his other CDs.
Not to be a total douche, because I agree with you, but John has been playing jazz for al ong time. most of his songs have a jazz feeling. Neon was inspired by jazz. Again, not to be a dick, because, yeah he rocks.
