For the Robert Wise's movie ' The Sound of Music ', Rodgers and Hammerstein composed this wonderful ' Climb Every Mountain ' (1965) here masterly performed
@MrGunterguerrero Rodgers and Hammerstein actually wrote Climb Ev'ry Mountain in 1959 for the broadway musical Sound of Music. Hammerstein died shortly after in 1960. Robert Wise's movie only came along after the stage version had become a resounding international success.
A fantastic perfomance by the Golden Voice of Norway, Sissel. I love this song and I love Sissel very much. This is definitely one of the best renditions I've ever heard of this song!
I think she has a nice voice to listen to in general, very pure and gentle.. but I really think she shouldn't sing soprano pieces or sing high notes.. she's just not that good at it. She should sing the songs that really suit her voice because then she sounds like a real pro.. nice try though.
@1979marty She is a natural soprano. She hits the high notes absolutely spot-on and unlike many sopranos doesn't have to sound as though she's busting a gut to get there. Give me her innate talent over that of an overtrained opera singer any day
@1979marty You're either intentionally trying to start an argument or you're deaf. If anyone ever had the innate ability to sing this song it is Sissel. @blackbeasthamish is exactly correct. She reached the high notes on this song as she does on all her other songs: effortlessly. Had there been video on this clip you would have seen a lovely smile on her face through the most difficult parts ... no straining, no grimacing, just beauty.
@Yellie876 I think I know what you are trying to say, but I believe she is able to hit the notes with just the right amount of power and pitch. Too many singers, especially some of the better known opera singers tend to rely rather too much on power of voice alone and this can have the effect of detracting from the music rather than adding to it. I think Sissel has got it just right
Sissel is the finest soprano of the world today. Her voice is like a songbird singing. Soft as velvet, very clear and so pure. Her voice can reach high above the skies and deep inside our souls. A very gifted and extremely talented singer of our time.
If i'm going to be absolutely honest i think the first few lines are not so solid, but after that she is insanely good, i like this more than the version i was looking for =)
yet another SOLID evidence that singing doesn't need to be so over the top. this lady knows how to convey messages with her voice. absolutely brilliant. my fav version.
Hey sisselfan - very nice. Thanks for posting this. I loved it when Julie Andrews did it, and I don't say this to start some war of words, but I like Sissel's rendition better! I'm also not a Sissel expert but I have listened to a large number of her songs and I must say I think she delivers this one, from about 3:00 to the end, with more power than I remember about her others. Does anyone else hear it this way? What a beautiful lady, inside and out; what an incredible voice! ~~ Tom

You are right, I think the EE vowel is very difficult for most singers, it has to be a rounded EE instead, like an umlaut.

she has a pretty voice, but i dont think it has much power. this song requires a lot of power behind the voice
