@NoaOno so do you play drums? I love complex music and for you to say as someone who most likely is not a drummer that Danny's drumming isn't as complex as the prog drummers out there you're sadly mistaken. I've listened to many prog bands and all of their drummers sound exactly the same. They are robots. Danny Carey puts so much feel into songs that you can tell instantly that he is playing.
@worldcitizenforever He is one of the best drummers ever, you will have to admit. However, I will agree that Tool has programmed shows. Tool hasn't been spontaneous for years. They repeat playlists year after year, so yea, he's playing these over and over and over. Especially when they aren't currently putting out a new album. Anyone can go to any playlist sight and see that unfortunately they are all very similar for years... :(
I laugh at Danny Carey as one of the best in history. We're talking skills now?
He plays really nice in the tool songs, like that stuff, but hm takes an average drummer to that. Just accept that he ain't no drum god guys! If you want proof of hundreds of better drummers, dig into some jazz and metal. Prog.
@NoaOno Dude, danny carey was a jazz drummer, he has been studying so many different drummer technique, I love metal, and death metal, for example: Meshuggah, Decapitated, Opeth, Katakalysm, my two favorite drummers are Danny Carey and Tomas Haake. It's not all about speed and what you can play, it's about the music you can create. Tool is very complex music.
@steinarao "Tool is very complex music." True. But it's hard to put my finger on it, but maybe he and his style is just a bit old? I don't know... The groove is missing in his playing. But I just started thinking of some Aenima songs, I think Jimmy, and started remember the his experimentality, creativity, niceness. Maybe Tool songs shouldn't have groove.
The drummer in my new fav band by the way, Periphery, is THE god of groove. Heh. But it's totally different ways of using musical skills.
@NoaOno LOL you think he has no groove? i saw them live, holy crap hes a good drummer, he played this awesome solo during "Schism" and its freaking complicated stuff. but yer if you think he has no skill go listen to Eulogy or Lateralus, he is definately no average drummer, besides when you get on a drum kit. it is the most impossible shit to play! seriously impossible to play for even a good drummer
@iWentToNam Yup I like complex music, that's how I know that this drummer isn't by far the best in the world. One famous example is meshuggah, maybe you don't like the music but that's far more tricky for the drummer than Tool. Danny is good, but don't say he is best or god, that's pathetic.
@NoaOno and for your information... tomas haake learned from danny carey on how to play drums. yea meshuggah plays with some interesting time signatures...but danny has the skill of playing his drum set with three SEPERATE time signatures at once. if you're really not a drummer, you have no say in who is the best if you dont understand the whole meaning and complexity of drumming. not only does danny carey get lost in his own music, he explores every meaning of percussion...more than just drums
@worldcitizenforever Your entitled to your opinion. But your obviously not a drummer, or anybody with an appreciation of music whatsoever. Let me guess, your favourite drummer is Gene Simmons??????
@worldcitizenforever i got to desagree dude danny carey is totally better than any drummer just because he never get trapped in one rhythm , he goes out of the lines of reason with the times
@worldcitizenforever cuz you can totally judge all of dannys soul, groove, and style from a solo he played during the middle of a song right? perhaps the solo fits the song better than a style of your preference? danny isnt limited to the contents of this solo
Excuse my rant, but, Danny Carey is a classicaly trained percussionist. He is a true innovator, yes, but he is not re-inventing the wheel. He is building on what has been handed on to him by generations of percussionists. He approaches his instrument with great reverence, leaving asside all carelessness. He is not beyond human, nor is he more evolved than anyone else. He is simply dedicated, disciplined, and gifted.
46 & 2 refers to Melchizedekian Theory where the body would reorganize DNA into 46 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes as a way of Evolving. If you are saying Danny is the next evolution of drumming, well i guess i would have to agree.
i would agree that he is the next step in drumming evolution lol but its actually Jungian theory if im not mistaken that states the next chromosome step is 46 & 2
Lmfao I swear, there is no humanity in a video like this. His precision, his power, his speed and the technicality within his drumming technique..he's a fucking robot. That is THE only explanation.
THIS MAN IS A ROBOT! look at how quick he can rotate when hitting his toms. its like if he looks at a peice of his kit, his hands teleport there without missing a beat.
They wont make a live DVD. They dont even like people making video of there concerts. It takes away from the live experience. Like Maynard says its like looking at a post card of the grand canyon its always nicer to be there.
Yeah you're right. Also i can't imagine how a Tool live can be filmed. Look at 2001/2002 concerts, and try to imagine a DVD of this. It's kind of hard because of the absence of light , and on Maynard especially. But I think they will release a DVD later
I meant live performances. They wouldnt capture their live performance on a DVD because you can't get the same feeling sitting on a sofa. Like Maynard has said you have to experience them live yourself. Audio of a live gig is a different thing. All the videos on Salival are music videos off their singles as far as I know.

agreed. i think there needs to be a drum college. where a bunch of drummers go and just drum together, and learn from the masters. or a music school where ppl just work together, bass guitar and drums and you find ppl of similar taste and play and find what fits. rather than the whole "school" process of sitting in a class. let the ppl play all day i say, that would be a sick school.
I agree as well. Western culture doesn't recognize the Guru/Disciple relationship as much as in the east. Also, the West has an entirely different ball game in its hands. Carey is most definitely a guru worthy of any genuine student/disciple's desire to learn. TOOL is four brilliant philosophers/scientists/prophets/magicians veiled and protected behind one of the world's greatest bands.
If anything magic science and knowledge all pale in comparison to music and its power of people...i mean would you rather know the times tables or a card trick then have a new (favourite band) album?
