  • Thanks Jimbo! Sometimes I have to interpret for male patients and it is awkward at first. I focus on the health information and making the person feel as comfortable as possible. We discuss the issue first. If there is a way to get a male interpreter in as soon as possible we do that, if not the Deaf person decides if I stay or go. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing your experience! Im a terp and agree about gender issues and religious conflicts... Have to interpret everything no matter if uncomfortable. I remember being surprised when client wanted medical marijunana. Have to interpret all. Male and female, yes, wish more male terps for male jobs etc.. but try to respect privacy and keep up in visual field and not stand by lower half, stand by shoulder and interpret when patient on back on bed,so keep privacy. Also respect attitude
