  • For those that don't know who Dodd is.. In the end seen when Leonard throws his gun into the truck of Jimmy's car, you see the gun fall on a pile of cash..Jimmy was a drug dealer..Jimmy was going to pay Dodd for his drugs..but Leonard killed Jimmy thus making the exchange for the drugs not possible..Dodd knows that Natalie sets up the meetings with Jimmy..so Dodd goes looking for Natalie probably to kill her..so Natalie uses Leonard to run Dodd out of town so she doesnt get killed

  • @mdog123abc I thought Jimmy was going to pay Teddy for the drugs. That's why Teddy said he just wanted to make some money on the side. Jimmy and Dodd were partners. Dodd probably found out that Leonard killed his partner when he saw him driving Jimmy's car.

  • I saw this film several years ago, watched many many times and never see that face of Teddy when the doctor pass by. I was always distracted i think.

And i considered myself a good observer... yeah right!

  • @Klaus141986 His name is lenny. Teddy is the short guy with glasses.

  • @Klaus141986 FUCK YOU!!!

  • @Darkshadowside Wowow! Why? what i have do? fuck your sister? Sorry for that!

  • @Klaus141986 YOU BETTER BE!!!

  • my one question is-- in the scene where he is strangling jimmy you see a flashback frame of him on topnof his wife stranglung her. wtf is that all about? best i can come up with is his repressed guilt for accidentally killing his wife with insulin is manifesting itself as a false memory of himself strangling her.

  • @gaozhi2007

    I think you maybe right

  • i just noticed this few frames in my third time through the movie all by myself without anyone telling me and i felt like the fucking shit! great scene

  • Oh man, i knew the scene and still could Not see four times in a row, only after the fifth time.

    Fucking mind game!

    Or i have amnesia.

  • i saw this the second time i watched the movie... you didnt think minds could be blown twice... wrong.

  • i dont uderstand how someone can see this???? thats happened very fast,i think i would never see leny i that part of second...

  • Watch 0:28 so you see how Sammy changes to Leonard.

  • I don't understand how Leonard's wife is diabetic because at the end when Teddy tells him she was diabetic Leonard reassures Teddy that she's not; I would assume that she was diabetic before the incident so that means Leonard would've remembered if she was diabetic or not. If someone could please clear this up for me that would be awesome.

  • @TheJmac1993 He would have forced his memory of his wife to be altered by repetition, just like he forced sammy to be himself. He cannot erase the memory, but he can alter it so that it wasn't him who killed his wife.

  • Leonard investigated Sammy and remembered that sammy didn't respond to conditioning, so he conditioned himself to remember the false truth that sammy's wife died because sammy accidentally gave her too much insulin but what really happened is that leonard's wife survived the attack that took his memory and SHE is the one who died from too much insulin from leonard! BAM!

  • @ToeKnee0126 Leonard's wife died. That is why Teddy helped him kill the killer the first time. He just forgot.

  • After watching it the second time I thought i noticed Sammy's face turning into Leonard's so went on youtube to confirm and I was right :D. 00:29

  • This and fight club are the 2 best movies ever

  • just watched the movie.... WHO THE HELL IS DODD? :D

  • @videoviewingguy what the hell are you talking about? first of all the name is "leonard", but also dodd is NOT leonard. why would you even think that?

  • @WieFunktioniertMathe well because every time he hits her he's told its dodd. "Leonard" (happy) keeps denying the truth that he is the killer he is looking for .also he is jealous of "dodd for being with natile so i just thought he is swapping the two around to be happy (lying to himself to be happy ) im sorry if i seem stupid but i have only seen it once

  • OH MY FUCKIN GOD I DIDNT NOTICE THAT HIS FACE TURNED INTO Leonard.

Thanks man i got it all Puzzled out now.

  • that film is generous, after many years..(and will be..)

  • But the Leonard's wife die ???

  • @tylerdurden0005 damnit tyler durden you don't even exist

  • @lk0micho

    LOL true,

but I'm not sure his wife is dead may be that John (the cop) is lying?

  • if he killed his wife. how did he get the condition

  • @Think1079 Everything Leonard remembers happening actually happened, except one key point: his wife survived the attack. But how could he remember that? When he saw his wife lying on the bathroom floor, he assumed she was dying. That became his reality because he can't remember anything after that.

"Remember Sammy Jankis" serves to remind Leonard of the tragic events leading up to HIS wife's actual death. He just chose to change the names... the faces... to protect himself from the truth.

  • @Think1079 Just as he chose to ignore the fact that his wife was the one with diabetes... not Sammy's. Just as he chose to dispose of so many pages of the police report.

Leonard created his own truth along the way.

  • @Think1079 he got it from when his wife was attacked. she survived and he gave her too many insulin shots, basically assisted suicide.

  • "it was your wife who had diabetes"

such an incredible film have been watching it for five years and theres still more layers!

  • 0:29

  • I have watched this several times and come to a conclusion. Sammy does not= Lenny. Remember Lenny's condition... He can remember things before the attack but he cant make new memories. Therefor the story of Sammy is entirely true. He has no idea if his wife was dead or not cus he was knocked out. Teddy lies to Lenny the entire movie to make money off the drug dealer. So the story of Lenny=Sammy is a lie. Teddy butchered the police report so he could use Lenny.

  • @12valvepower1029 whether or not sammy is leonard is up for interpretation, most believe sammy was a real person but leonard incorporated most of his own story into sammy's, like teddy said sammy didnt have a wife, and teddy doesnt lie the entire movie, he did make some money on the side from the drug deal, but he never butchered the police report, clearly in the movie it states that leonard took out the 12 pages so he could create a puzzle he could never solve.

  • (cont'ed)Lenny cant remember anything after the accident. So lets just say for fun that Lenny did kill his wife...then why would he have to "cope" with it by using the Sammy story to cover up his own actions. If he did kill his wife he wouldnt be able to remember, therefore not needing to make up the Sammy story. The bottom line is... Teddy is lying from begining to end. Oh and the scene in this video is Lenny comparing himself to Sammy because they both fake recognizing people to seem "normal."

  • @XPotatoKillerX Asthma

  • Couldnt it be him? Just us looking in at him in another quick scene of his forgotten memory? Cuz he couldve just forgot it...(this is so hard to word. haha)

  • People get so caught up on this scene. Listen to what Lenny is saying: he is explaining why he misunderstood Sammy. Hence he is putting himself in his shoes, visualising it. Its a metaphoric shot. Nolan likes to show the audience stuff that will throw them off track, if you saw his other movies he will often show the audience what somebody is THINKING about. That does not make it real.

The Lenny = Sammy theory is just not physically possible. Its just Teddy's misunderstanding of Lennys story

  • i swear to god dude my heart stopped during this scene

  • Sammy does not = Lenny because Lenny can't remember anything after the accident.

  • What alot of people here are forgetting is that the story that Teddy told Lenny in the warehouse (right after he killed Jimmy) might not be entirely true. Teddy had been lying to Lenny throughout the entire movie. He might have been lying about Sammy and John G. aswell.

  • @MasterGame12 No, cuz Christopoher Nolan doesn't work that way. the tattoo that said "I've done it" could have eaily been removed, just as Leonard had removed the pages from his file and conditioned himself to remember the events from his past incorrectly to give himself a riddle he could never solve. Nolan makes it clear in interviews that Teddy is telling Leonard the truth at the end, and that it is Leaonard who is the "unreliable narrator."

  • @44excalibur That's odd. I listened to Nolan's commentary for the movie on the DVD and he seems to insinuate that TEDDY is the one who's unreliable. (The director's commentary actually has four alternate endings, each one insinuating something slightly different). Seems weird that he would go through all that trouble to mask the truth about the movie just to reveal it in an interview. Could you give me the link to this interview? I'd like to watch it.

  • @MasterGame12 I watched the DVD interviews and listened to the commentary and Nolan clearly states that Lenny is the "unreliable narrator." Notice the word "narrator" in that phrase. Teddy can hardly be the narrator of the story, can he? Especially since it is Lenny's story and his voice-over narration. Nolan refers to Lenny as the "unreliable narrator" several times in the DVD commentary and in the DVD interviews. I suggest you go back and watch again.

  • @44excalibur OK, I re-watched the DVD with the commentary, and you're quite right about Lenny being an unreliable narrator. However, this does not neccisarily mean that everything Teddy tells him is true. Nolan, in one of the alternate commentaries, quite bluntly states that Teddy is probably lying, and that the memories showing Lenny's wife alive are distortions. Like I said before, he insinuates something different in each commentary. I get the feeling that maybe Nolan himself is unreliable.

  • @44excalibur P.S. There's always the chance that there is some truth to both theories: Lenny might be wrong about some things he "remembers", and Teddy might be lying about some of the things he claimed were true. I have a personal theory of my own, if you're interested in hearing it.

  • @MasterGame12 Sure, let's hear it. :)

  • @44excalibur Knowing that anything Lenny claims about his past is unreliable, my theory is basically that most of what Teddy said to Lenny was true (His wife surviving, Sammy being a faker), except the part about John G. I think that John G never existed, and that there was only one attacker the night his wife was raped (like the police claimed). If Lenny was really trying to create a puzzle he could never solve, then perhaps he invented the "second attacker" in order to further that delusion.

  • @MasterGame12 you contradict yourself ,when second attacker is not exist , who damaged he`s brain? in the context of film, once that he was fell down unconsciously ,how he kill "only" attacker?

  • @44excalibur P.S. I also still think that the "I DID IT" tattoo was only a fantasy (there would be no reason to get that Tattoo if John G never existed). Then again, there is a good chance that I'm wrong about the whole thing. My theory is only a theory, after all.

  • @ViciousGuitarist why this post it`s spam? it`s the truth :)

  • That is ridiculous. How are you supposed to see it?

    Nolan, you crazy genius bastard...

  • @Eradicus i saw it but had no idea what it meant, after i watched it again it made sense to me

  • @Eradicus lol he is a very clever mastermind, but some notice it, others don't... sometimes it takes multiple viewings of the movie or someone pointing it out to u.

  • OMG I can't believe that was there. This is actually the best movie I have ever watched. Christopher Nolan is my favourite director with this and on top of the Batman remakes. I wanna go out and watch Inception now

  • woah @ 0.30 ...ty for posting this! a true genius movie in all aspects!

  • what a great movie and what a wanderful director! alway whith a lot of imagination and magnificent screenplay for his movies. of course that his brother too

    christopher and johnathan nolan rocks!!

and christophar said that to know the truth of the movie there was the need of watching it very careful. ¡maan!

  • Thank you for posting this scene! I literally screamed out loud- "Oh my gosh" when I slowed this video down then watched it over and over again in shock!

  • remember sammy jenkins, remember sammy jenkins, remember sammy jenkins. LOL!! probably my most favorite movie of all time.

  • i noticed this the first time i saw the movie

  • @hitsfromtheb0ng420 of course you did... you deserve a cookie -_-"

  • The best part is, you can't be sure for certain, the whole film is about what Leonard says, that "Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. " .. and you always believe what you want to believe

  • sammy is lenny.. is the story he trained his self to learn so he doesn't go back to having no purpose .. thats why he created a puzzle that can't be solved . so he doesn't sit around watching tv for the rest of his life

  • I like to think that Sammy is not Lenny. That was what I got when I saw the movie at the theater the first time. Haven't watched it again, I may change my mind next time I watch it.

  • I never noticed that scene

  • This brain problem is like 100 million to 1 chance of getting. Do you really think 2 guys in the movie have it?

If so, how do you explain (at 1hr 45 min), the flashback of the "murdered" wife holding Lenny's chest and the tattoos all over it. Strange

  • @freqflier2002 I think the scene when he with his wife is not a flashback, but a fantasy of his. in it, he has a tattoo which says something like 'I did it', and that's not seen anywhere else in the movie, which sorta makes you believe that his strange brain was conjuring it up. leonard wishes it could happen after he kills who he believes to be John G, but of course, it's an impossible scenario

  • @freqflier2002 That scene you described (with Lenny's dead wife) is impossible either way, because in it, Lenny has a tattoo that says "I've Done It", which isn't shown anywhere else in the movie. It was clearly just a fantasy, and not a memory.

  • @MasterGame12 After he killed the real guy, he tattooed he'd done it, after his wife died he got rid of it to solve an unsolvable mystery, he doesn't have any reason to live to move on because he lies to himself to be happy

  • vargulf19 is correct

there are similarities between the two (the stories) that allow for this kind of "image suggestion" but the two were not the same.

great damn movie - just.... so good.

  • Sammy was a different person. Sammy was an actual con man who didn't have the disease. But you find out at the end of the movie that to keep the search going he hid the truth of his wife's death by disguising it as Sammy's story. Sammy = Con man. Sammy's story = Lenny's story

  • Huh, I'm not so sure that was ever made out to be a truth in the film. I assume you're basing that off from what Teddy told Leonard, but Teddy has lied to Leonard plenty of times in the past for his own person gain, ie killing the drug dealer.

Teddy was trying to fuck with Leonard, especially considering that Leonard wouldn't be able to remember someone killing his wife if Sammy's story was his own. Hence, no search for the suspected killer >.>

  • thats impossible nobody would be able to completely erase their shortterm memory perfectly unless they truly had this condition. After leonard got hit in the head he developed this condition and he lived the same life as sammy, who was the alterego leonard subconsciously created. becuase somewhere in his subconscious mind he was aware he killed his wife leaving him really guilty so thats why his mind forgot his wife was a diabetic and he created the sammy alterego

  • @hitsfromtheb0ng420 Pretty close. There really was a Sammy, but he had only pretended to have the condition and didn't really have a wife. Leonard coped with the trauma of killing his own wife by assigning the details of her death to Sammy's story.

  • @Megaritz ... But if it was actually Leonard who killed his wife by injecting her with too much insulin, then why would he have 2 cope with it by assigning the details on2 Sammy's story?.. because this was after the attack, so how could he remember?.. I think this is the only thing I can't work out in this movie : /

  • @marcuslobodarus I'm guessing his wife's death was just so traumatic he sort of remembered it *subconsciously* even though it was after he developed his condition.

  • @marcuslobodarus SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN THE FULL MOVIE

According to Teddy, Sammy was a faker, he had no wife. Lenny's wife had diabetes. Lenny had the accident and right before it he saw his wife in the body bag, so he can't make new memories and he didn't know she survived. According to Teddy, Lenny's wife had diabetes so he was the one who overdosed her on insulin. He wrote the note on his chest that John G Raped and MURDERED his wife. He only knew this because of his notes

  • @Megaritz he remembered Sammy because of the accident and the note of Remember Sammy Jenkis... he also thought his wife was murdered because of the note on his chest otherwise he'd be clueless

  • thought the killer was still out there. mixed with his condition and subconsious mind, that made him constanltly on a quest to kill john g

  • I didn´t even realized of that when I saw the movie...

  • Sammy and Leonard are two different people.

  • Pause at 0:30 there's your answer

  • Lenny became Sammy
