@yaunez Thanks for the comments. They have the governor because it's so easy to get these cars above 100 mph even in stock, and the tires/brakes suck from the factory. Updrade the brakes and tires before you chip the motor.

thats amazing. my sister has one with 160+k and its about the biggest piece of shit i have ever seen. then again, having my sister driving it doesnt help. ever heard of the Midas touch? well she has the opposite of that. everything she touches turns to SHIT!!!
i got a 96 Riviera for my first car (still have it :) ) im not sure what modifactions are on it might be stock not sure but ive found driving i can get 5km-120km in 8-9 seconds!
when you look at all these sporty ferarris and mazeratis you think man americans make no sport cars or luxury ..but this .this is something beyond.its awsome
nice i raced a guy on a honda bike and he didnt even jump in front of me,he got in lie with my front bumper then 2nd gear hit and he was behind melol i love my rivi
Awesome! I love these riviera's. My uncle let me drive his... and damn, mad balls for a stock family car. And like the guy below me said, cops don't expect much from a buick. Or my lumina for that matter...
These cars are all pretty much the same. (grandprix, bonneville, riviera,) more or less different styling and gears. All the 3800s are great engines. reliable even if they get wrung out. If not they wouldn't be in half the gm cars from 1990-2000+. I'd go for it, I bought my 98 bonnevill l67 from an old guy. I got pulled over more in my 1990 grand am w/100hp cause it was red and small. The police stigma on these cars rock.
3800 is a great motor, but the Riviera is a different car than Grand Prix and Bonneville. For example, Riv has aluminum hood and battery mounted in rear for better weight distribution. Also rear self-leveling air shocks.
@vanwiseman wow, i commented two years ago. They are different platforms, but all the same drivetrain. My old bonneville also had the rear air shocks.
how reliable are they? im just asking because i know someone who is sellin theres for 2 grand cuz hes movin to germany and he cant take it but yea are they any good besides there awesome performance?
I've had mine for almost 5 or 6 years and I bought it from the original owner which was an older lady who took good care of it. I bought it with 90k miles on it and it now has 140k. I've not had any major transmission or motor troubles, only little things that come with age have gone bad, but I'd be weary of such a low price. Judge it for yourself, they're great cars!
ah,, ok, i just didnt wanna buy somthing that was gonna break down but yea, the person that has it is old, and has kept it well maintained! so hopefully i'll join the riviera performance group one of these days:]
I'd jump on it then, you got a good deal there. What year is it? If it's 97 or older, make sure it's S/C because the Non S/C are no where near as fun.
I bought this car with less than 25K miles, started modding at 40K, now has 135K. Still on original engine and trans, not much $ to maintain, either. My daily driver, and once in a while track toy.
How bad was it to but the headers on it and how many miles did it have when you did it? Mine has 140k now and I think it's a bit past the time to do that, but the motor and tranny are both still very strong on it, with the last problem I had being the cheap plastic fuel line splitting under the hood.
Impressive! I have a 97 riviera, check out my page.

More like 14-15 secs.
apexak 2 years ago
No, more like 13 secs, as verified with a scanner log. Also the car does 0-99 MPH in 13.9 secs, as verified by Norwalk Raceway.

stock supercharger?

Stock supercharger w/ overdrive pulley, and not a stock engine. ;)

Nice run and great whine! I love Buicks. I've clocked my 2001 Cadillac Seville doing 0-90 in 13 seconds in stock form.

@ fahaleetoe876:
Yeah, that's sad considering the car can do 150-160 MPH. I've had mine to about 135 and still lots left in her.

does anybody know the brand of the audio in the buick riviera(1995-1999)thx
datchicagoboi 4 years ago
It's Delco, called "Concert Sound II" system. Not the best sounding speakers, but a decent head unit if you boost the output with an amp.
vanwiseman 4 years ago
yeah its called concert surround or concert sound
book doesnt say who makes it but maybe that can lead you somewhere

the motor is amazing, the rest is GM lol. be wary of the low price! but it's a buick, probably pretty damn reliable. :)

Over 198k miles, engine, body, paint, and interior are still in very good shape. And upgrades are very affordable.
vanwiseman 2 years ago
Nice, but I think mine has more of a supercharger whine and less of the motor noise. I dunno why, only mod I have is a CAI.
Shintsu2 4 years ago
Mine has headers and almost stock exhaust, fenderwell CAI. It's got a nice, balance of whine and growl at WOT, sounds stock when cruising.
vanwiseman 4 years ago

Installed the headers at 95k; still like new after 40k miles. See my write-up at w w w.rivperformance.c o m
