i'm sorry man but this isn't techinically hard rock or heavy metal ): Most of these are thrash metal, alternative or nu rock. Good bands but not "hard rock" or "heavy metal" so to call them so isn't truly accurate.(Pantera's closest and can defined as heavy metal because of their first couple of albums before they went thrash) , some actual heavy metal and hard rock bands that were active in the 90's that come to mind off the top of my head are Y&T,Saxon, Accept,Axxis,Doro,Iron Maiden, etc.

The only truly good part of the 90's mainstream was '91-94 when Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Megadeth, Metallica, Ozzy, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, STP, Pantera, GnR, and even Slayer were all simultaneously ruling the charts. After that, things went back to the way they were in the 80's - songs written for no other reason than to make money and get laid. Aside from the early 90's, I view everything from '87 (when MTV became dominant) through now as the same corporate craptastic era.
