Notice how George waves to the crowd so they'll scream & cover up his "If I needed someone" line which he is having trouble singing in tune? I've seen him do this in other videos. That being said, I give them credit for being as good as they were live, considering having no monitors/ear buds like today. Oh, and I love that 12 string Rickenbacker George is playing! R.I.P. George & John
Regarding the voice comments - you should realize that the Fabs didn't have the benefit of stage monitors. You can hear John having the same problems at the Shea Stadium concert, and Paul in the second song of this set. Typical to get out of pitch & lose the beat. Addtionally - they were getting road weary with the constant live sound issues, the screaming fans and their studio songs were getting more complex vocally and instrumentally - they couldn't perform them that well.
I would say fatigue effected this performance.. their flight was delayed before they arrived in Japan. The band were well within range of the P.A. a level below the main stage area and with a quiet audience could hear themselves. I heard the raw Shea analogue P.A. feed and its very good considering the conditions the band played it. The Beatles rarely gave a poor perfornamce thought Japan is not one of their better concerts. Atlanta 65 proved the tech probs could be overcome
Come on guys you have to admit George sux at singing live and yeah while my guitar gently weeps is a great song but you all know his voice sux live but not in a studio
not just the singing, the only good work george came up with was here comes the sun, and the only one ringo came up with was octopus's garden...and the beatles cudve survived without them if u know what i mean...but ringo is a pretty good singer i have to admitt.,.,
@BL80488 have you ever heard him play any of those live? I'm just sayin that he isn't a good live singer but his song writing is brilliant and he sounds good in studio with all his songs
George was great. Nothing negative to say about him. One could be too critical and diss him on his vocals, but, as a singer, he was a very lucky man. He had two pretty damn good back up singers.
In his earlier songs, he sung in his lower octave, once you get to songs likewhile my guitar gently weeps, here comes the sun, and something, etc. etc... His singing was way better
OH MY GOSH!!! The part where John waves so enthusiastically, around 2:28, to the audience, HILARIOUS!!! I LOVE The Beatles! Not only are they a fantastic band, they're hilarious too!
Wow, the amps and stage gear REALLY SUCKS. Man I wish they had modern gear. Having to spend the shows fighting your own gear and screaming is bad enough.
This was one of those gigs they performed where George was utterly bored doing. Nothing to do with the fans, it was more to do with the constant touring they did in those days. When they hit it big, they hardly had a day off in 5 years so you could understand why they got fed up with it all.
they were awesome live when they still enjoyed it.
check out the star club stuff from 1962, stockholm 64, melbourne 64, new musical express 64 and 65, blackpool 65, shea stadium 65, hollywood bowl 64 and 65, paris palace of sports 65... they rocked live...but when they were not tired and bored, by 66 they HATED touring, so, no wonder they are not rocking like they used to
Ringo had got into an argument with other 3 beatles, that's why he looks unhappy...all of them were stressed out by touring, specially that japanese gig. Also, George said that they used the make girls scream whenever they thought the harmonies were going bad, so that screaming would hide the bad sound. They seemed to be really tired of touring, with all those loud fans, not beeing able to expand themselves as musicians, having to do the same 30 min. set sometimes even 2 or 3 times aday.
yeap you're right. finally someone noticed about him being unhappy and not smiling. there's gotta be other reasons other than being afraid being shot. yeah but for what reason? george was the only one really bringing the girls to smuck and scream!!!!!!!!
Why is Ringo look so unhappy ??!!

Yes, George's singing here seems quite a bit laboured/tired. Shame because this is an excellent composition of his.
